Target practice groups with recurring sponsorship
Latham sponsors Green Cards most consistently in its transactional and litigation practices, where associates stay long enough to reach sponsorship eligibility. Research which practice groups have active LCA filings before targeting specific offices or roles at the firm.
Understand which EB category applies to your role
Associates with advanced degrees typically qualify for EB-2, which bypasses PERM's lengthy labor market test for National Interest Waiver cases. Staff roles in IT, finance, or library services usually follow the EB-3 PERM route. Knowing your category shapes how you negotiate timing with the firm.
Document your credentials before the PERM audit window
PERM requires your employer to verify your qualifications meet the role's minimum requirements. Gather official transcripts, credential evaluations for foreign degrees, and bar admission records before sponsorship begins. Gaps discovered during DOL's audit stage can delay or invalidate the entire labor certification.
Negotiate sponsorship timing into your offer discussion
Latham typically initiates Green Card sponsorship after two to three years of employment. Asking directly during the offer stage what the firm's standard timeline is, and whether your practice group has an established program, sets clear expectations before you sign.
Use Migrate Mate to track Latham's filing history by role
Before your interview, use Migrate Mate to review Latham's LCA and Green Card filing data by job title and office. That pattern shows which roles the firm has historically sponsored, helping you frame your value in terms of positions they already support.
Prepare for the prevailing wage determination stage
DOL sets the prevailing wage for your specific role, location, and experience level using OFLC Wage Search data. If Latham's offer falls below the DOL-determined wage for your position, the PERM application cannot proceed. Verify your offered salary aligns with Level II or Level III wage tiers before filing begins.
Latham & Watkins LLP Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Latham & Watkins LLP sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Latham & Watkins LLP sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees across its U.S. offices. The firm supports both EB-2 and EB-3 pathways depending on the role and the employee's qualifications. Sponsorship is most common for associates in established practice groups and for professional staff in specialized support functions.
Which roles and departments at Latham & Watkins LLP typically receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Latham most commonly covers associates in litigation, corporate, and finance practices, where long-term retention is a firm priority. Professional staff in legal technology, library services, and finance operations have also received sponsorship. Roles with highly specialized credentials or limited U.S. talent supply tend to qualify more readily for PERM labor certification.
How does the Green Card application process work at Latham & Watkins LLP?
Latham typically initiates the process through PERM labor certification filed with DOL, which requires the firm to conduct a supervised job search demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. Once PERM is approved, the firm files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. For EB-2 candidates, a National Interest Waiver can bypass PERM entirely if qualifications support it.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at a firm like Latham & Watkins LLP?
The PERM process alone typically takes 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition is even filed. After I-140 approval, wait times for a visa number to become available vary significantly depending on your birth country and the EB category. Employees from India and China face the longest backlogs, often extending well beyond five years for EB-2 and EB-3 categories.
How do I find open roles at Latham & Watkins LLP that include Green Card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate shows verified Green Card filing history for Latham & Watkins LLP by job title and office location, so you can identify which roles the firm has sponsored in the past before applying. Targeting positions that match Latham's established sponsorship patterns significantly improves your chances of receiving a Green Card offer as part of your employment package.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Latham & Watkins LLP?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
