Target pharmacy and clinical roles first
Walgreens concentrates Green Card sponsorship in licensed pharmacy and clinical positions rather than store management or retail operations. Your strongest path is a role requiring a professional license or advanced degree, where EB-2 or EB-3 eligibility is clearest and employer motivation to retain you is highest.
Understand which EB pathway fits you
Walgreens files under EB-2 for roles requiring an advanced degree and EB-3 for bachelor-level or skilled positions. Pharmacists typically qualify under EB-2. If you're in a support or technician role, expect EB-3, which carries longer wait times depending on your country of birth.
Map your salary against PERM wage requirements
Before your interview, use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your role and location. Walgreens must pay at or above that level throughout the PERM process, and a misalignment between your offered salary and the prevailing wage can delay or derail your petition.
Ask directly about Green Card intent during negotiation
Raise Green Card sponsorship explicitly before signing your offer letter, not after onboarding. Walgreens HR teams in pharmacy and clinical tracks are familiar with the question, but you need written confirmation of sponsorship intent before your start date to avoid ambiguity later in the process.
Use Migrate Mate to track Walgreens filing history
Pull Walgreens's DOL Labor Condition Application records on Migrate Mate to see which job titles and locations the company has filed for. This tells you where Green Card sponsorship is actually active, not just where it's theoretically possible, so you can target your application accordingly.
Plan for PERM recruitment documentation early
PERM requires Walgreens to run a formal recruitment process and document that no qualified U.S. worker was available. If you're already employed there, understand that this process restarts the clock and typically takes several months before USCIS even receives the petition.
Walgreens Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Walgreens sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Walgreens sponsors Green Card visas for select positions, primarily in pharmacy, clinical, and specialized corporate roles. Sponsorship is not available for most frontline retail or store-level positions. Candidates in licensed or degree-required roles have the strongest path, typically through EB-2 or EB-3 petitions filed after a period of employment.
Which departments at Walgreens are most likely to sponsor a Green Card?
Pharmacy and clinical operations are Walgreens's most active Green Card sponsoring departments. Pharmacists, pharmacy managers, and healthcare specialists in patient-facing or clinical roles are the most commonly sponsored. Corporate roles in IT, finance, and operations may also qualify, but sponsorship in those tracks is less consistent and depends on the specific position.
How do I start the Green Card process at Walgreens?
The process starts with your HR or immigration contact initiating a PERM labor certification through DOL. Walgreens must conduct a formal recruitment process, document the results, and then file Form I-140 with USCIS once PERM is certified. The timeline from PERM filing to I-140 approval typically runs one to two years before you can file for adjustment of status.
How long does Walgreens Green Card sponsorship take?
Total timelines vary significantly by visa category and your country of birth. For EB-2 and EB-3, the PERM certification alone can take six to twelve months. After I-140 approval, applicants from countries with backlogs, such as India or China, may wait years for a visa number to become available before filing for adjustment of status.
How do I find Walgreens Green Card job openings?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with verified Green Card and H-1B visa filing history, so you can identify Walgreens roles that are active in sponsorship rather than searching blindly. Cross-reference those openings with Walgreens's careers page and prioritize positions in pharmacy or clinical functions, where Green Card sponsorship is most established.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Walgreens?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
