Target clinical roles requiring licensure first
Ascension's H-1B sponsorship concentrates heavily in licensed clinical positions: RNs, physician assistants, and specialist roles where U.S. licensure is mandatory. Applying to these roles signals you already meet the credential threshold that triggers Ascension's internal sponsorship review process.
Verify your specialty occupation qualification early
Ascension's HR team evaluates whether your role meets USCIS specialty occupation standards before initiating any H-1B filing. Cross-reference your job title against the O*NET occupation profile to confirm a bachelor's degree in a specific field is the standard entry requirement for that position.
Research Ascension's prevailing wage before negotiating
Before accepting an offer, run your target job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search to confirm Ascension's offered salary meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage. An offer below wage level could delay or block your LCA certification, stalling the entire H-1B process.
Align your application to the April cap deadline
Ascension operates on a standard H-1B cap filing cycle. USCIS opens cap-subject registration each March, with employment start dates of October 1st. Plan your interview and offer timeline so you have an accepted offer before registration opens, giving Ascension's legal team enough lead time to file.
Search Ascension roles filtered for H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find Ascension job listings filtered by verified H-1B sponsorship history. This lets you focus your applications on the specific facilities and departments where Ascension has actively filed, rather than applying broadly and waiting to learn sponsorship is unavailable for that role.
Request written confirmation of sponsorship intent at offer stage
Large nonprofit health systems like Ascension route sponsorship approvals through centralized HR and legal teams. Before signing an offer, ask for written confirmation that the specific facility and role are approved for H-1B sponsorship, since not every Ascension location sponsors at the same level.
Ascension H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Ascension sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Ascension sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for clinical and allied health roles such as registered nurses, physicians, and specialist positions. Sponsorship eligibility varies by facility and department, so confirming sponsorship availability for a specific role and location during the offer stage is strongly recommended before proceeding.
Which departments at Ascension typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Ascension concentrates in clinical departments where licensed professionals are in shortage, including acute care nursing, hospitalist medicine, radiology, and rehabilitation services. Administrative and non-clinical roles are rarely sponsored. Roles requiring specific state licensure and a degree in a directly related field are the strongest candidates for H-1B filing.
How do I navigate the H-1B filing process at Ascension?
After receiving a conditional job offer, Ascension's HR team coordinates with outside immigration counsel to file the Labor Condition Application with DOL, then submits the H-1B petition to USCIS. Your role is to provide complete credential documentation, including transcripts, licenses, and prior immigration records, promptly to avoid delays in the filing timeline.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Ascension?
The standard H-1B cap process takes roughly six to eight months from USCIS registration in March to an October 1st start date. Ascension may use premium processing in time-sensitive clinical placements, which reduces the USCIS adjudication window to about 15 business days. Cap-exempt hospital affiliates can file year-round with faster effective dates.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Ascension that are open to sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Ascension job listings filtered by verified H-1B sponsorship history, so you can identify which facilities and roles have an active sponsorship track record. This saves time compared to applying broadly and discovering sponsorship isn't available for a specific position or location after reaching the offer stage.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Ascension?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
