Target clinical and specialty roles
Northwell Health's H-1B sponsorship is concentrated in clinical departments, including medicine, surgery, nursing, and allied health. Focusing your applications on these areas gives you the strongest chance of landing a role that qualifies for sponsorship.
Confirm sponsorship willingness early
Healthcare employers vary on which roles they'll sponsor. When applying at Northwell Health, ask your recruiter directly whether the position is open to H-1B candidates before investing time in interviews or credentialing steps.
Understand the cap-exempt advantage
As a nonprofit health system, Northwell Health may qualify as a cap-exempt H-1B employer for certain roles. That means eligible petitions can be filed year-round, outside the annual lottery, which is a significant benefit for applicants.
Align your credentials with U.S. licensing requirements
H-1B petitions in healthcare require proof of licensure or eligibility in the state of employment. Having your credentials evaluated and any required U.S. board exams completed before applying strengthens your case with Northwell's HR and legal teams.
Use verified sponsorship data when searching
Not every Northwell Health job listing specifies visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you identify which Northwell roles have a genuine track record of H-1B support.
Engage the recruiting team through official channels
Northwell Health has a dedicated talent acquisition function for its clinical and research workforce. Applying through official career portals and following up directly with recruiters signals commitment and ensures your application reaches the team managing H-1B processes.
Northwell Health H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Northwell Health sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Northwell Health sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying roles across its health system. Sponsorship is most common in clinical, research, and specialized allied health positions. As a large nonprofit health system, Northwell has the infrastructure to manage H-1B petitions and has done so consistently across its network of hospitals and facilities.
Which roles and departments at Northwell Health typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Northwell Health is most common in specialty medicine, surgery, primary care, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, medical research, and laboratory sciences. Roles requiring a specific professional degree, such as an MD, RN, or clinical PhD, are the strongest candidates for sponsorship, as they clearly satisfy the specialty occupation requirement.
How do I apply for a position at Northwell Health as an H-1B candidate?
Apply through Northwell Health's official careers portal and indicate your visa status during the application process. Once you receive interest from a recruiter, confirm that the role is open to H-1B sponsorship before proceeding. Northwell's legal or HR team typically initiates the petition process after a formal offer is made and state licensure requirements are met.
How do I know if a Northwell Health job listing is open to H-1B sponsorship?
Job listings don't always specify H-1B eligibility, which makes verification important. You can ask the recruiter directly or use Migrate Mate to identify Northwell Health roles based on verified sponsorship history. Focusing on clinical and research positions generally gives you the highest probability of sponsorship consideration compared to administrative or support roles.
What is the H-1B timeline like at a large health system such as Northwell Health?
For cap-subject petitions, the standard timeline follows USCIS's H-1B lottery cycle, with registration in March and work authorization beginning October 1 at the earliest. Northwell Health may qualify as a cap-exempt employer for certain positions, allowing petitions to be filed and approved year-round without waiting for the annual lottery, which can shorten the timeline significantly.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Northwell Health?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
