Align your credentials to Missouri requirements
Missouri requires state teacher certification for most K-12 Instructor roles. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency before applying so Hazelwood HR can verify equivalency without delays.
Target subject shortage areas strategically
School districts prioritize H-1B sponsorship for subjects with hard-to-fill positions, like STEM and special education. Research Hazelwood's current openings and focus your application on roles where domestic candidate supply is tightest.
Confirm OPT start date aligns with the school calendar
Hazelwood follows a traditional academic calendar. If you're on F-1 OPT, your authorization start date needs to overlap with the district's hiring window, typically late spring through summer, to avoid gaps before the fall semester begins.
Ask HR about the H-1B filing timeline upfront
USCIS's H-1B cap registration opens in March, with an October 1 start date. When you receive an offer, clarify whether Hazelwood will file in the current cycle or the next, so you can plan your status accordingly.
Browse open Instructor roles through Migrate Mate
Hazelwood School District posts Instructor openings across multiple subjects throughout the year. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for their visa-sponsoring roles so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Secure your state substitute or provisional license early
If your full Missouri teaching certificate is pending, a substitute or provisional license lets you legally begin work while the permanent certification processes. Presenting this to Hazelwood shows you're employment-ready and reduces their onboarding risk.

Find Instructor at Hazelwood school district JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Hazelwood school district sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, Hazelwood School District has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas for Instructor roles. As a public school district, it qualifies as a cap-exempt employer, meaning it can file H-1B petitions with USCIS outside the annual lottery. This is a meaningful advantage for international educators who missed or lost the H-1B cap draw.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at Hazelwood school district?
Applications for Instructor positions at Hazelwood School District go through their online hiring portal. You'll need a current resume, proof of Missouri teacher certification or eligibility, and relevant transcripts. If you're specifically seeking visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate lists Hazelwood's open Instructor roles filtered by sponsorship type, so you can apply directly to positions where sponsorship is available.
Which visa types does Hazelwood school district use for Instructor roles?
Hazelwood School District sponsors both H-1B and F-1 OPT for Instructor positions. H-1B is the most common path for long-term employment, and because the district is a government-affiliated educational institution, it may file outside the annual cap. F-1 OPT is typically used for recent graduates entering their first U.S. teaching role while transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does Hazelwood school district expect for Instructor positions?
Most Instructor roles at Hazelwood require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject area and Missouri state teacher certification. For international applicants, a NACES-approved credential evaluation confirming U.S. degree equivalency is standard. Subject-area expertise matters significantly, particularly in STEM, special education, and bilingual instruction, where the district consistently has open positions.
How do I understand the H-1B filing timeline when accepting an Instructor offer from Hazelwood?
Because Hazelwood is a cap-exempt employer, it isn't bound to the April USCIS registration window and can file an H-1B petition at any point in the year. This means your start date can align with the district's academic calendar rather than the October 1 cap-subject date. Confirm with HR whether they use premium processing, which reduces USCIS adjudication to around 15 business days, to avoid delays before your semester start.
