Align your credentials with U.S. degree equivalency
Hofstra evaluates academic qualifications carefully for Education roles. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency before applying. A formal equivalency letter removes ambiguity during hiring and visa filing.
Target roles tied to degree-specific disciplines
Hofstra's Education department hires for positions that map tightly to academic fields, which strengthens H-1B specialty occupation arguments. Focus on roles where your degree field directly matches the job description, not adjacent areas where the connection is less clear.
Ask about sponsorship during the offer stage
Hofstra has sponsored H-1B and permanent residence cases for Education staff before, but not every open role automatically comes with sponsorship. Raise the topic after a verbal offer, not during early interviews, and ask specifically whether the position is eligible.
Understand the academic hiring calendar and H-1B timing
University Education roles often follow fall and spring hiring cycles. USCIS's H-1B cap filing window opens April 1 each year. If your offer comes after that window, ask whether Hofstra can file for the following cap year or use a cap-exempt pathway.
Prepare for PERM if permanent residence is your goal
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship through Hofstra, DOL requires a PERM labor certification. Universities sometimes use a special handling process for teaching roles, which can shorten the timeline. Ask Hofstra's HR team which pathway applies to your specific position.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Education roles at Hofstra
Filtering for sponsored Education positions at a specific university is time-consuming manually. Migrate Mate lets you search Hofstra's open Education roles by visa type, so you can focus your applications on positions where sponsorship is already on the table.

Find Education at Hofstra University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Hofstra University sponsor H-1B visas for Educations?
Yes, Hofstra University has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for Education roles, particularly for faculty and instructional positions that qualify as specialty occupations. Sponsorship is not guaranteed for every open position, so confirm eligibility directly with Hofstra's HR or Office of General Counsel during the offer stage.
How do I apply for Education jobs at Hofstra University?
Applications for Education roles at Hofstra are submitted through the university's online careers portal. Faculty positions typically require a CV, cover letter, teaching statement, and research portfolio where applicable. Migrate Mate also surfaces Hofstra's open Education roles filtered by visa sponsorship type, so you can identify relevant opportunities before applying directly.
Which visa types does Hofstra University commonly use for Education roles?
Hofstra sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Education positions, and has also filed under EB-2 and EB-3 pathways for permanent residence. F-1 OPT and CPT are available to eligible students in university programs, and TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Education occupations under the USMCA.
What qualifications are expected for Education roles at Hofstra University?
Most Education positions at Hofstra require at minimum a master's degree, with doctoral credentials expected for tenure-track and senior instructional roles. Relevant teaching experience, subject matter expertise, and in some cases licensure or certification are standard expectations. For H-1B eligibility, your degree field must directly correspond to the duties of the role.
How do I time my application around Hofstra's sponsorship and visa filing process?
H-1B cap filings occur once a year, with USCIS's registration window typically opening in March and petitions filed on April 1. University Education roles that qualify as cap-exempt may have more flexibility. If you're on F-1 OPT, factor in your OPT expiration date and pursue roles at Hofstra with enough lead time for an H-1B transition before your work authorization ends.
