Target Faculty and Research Roles First
Hofstra's sponsorship activity is concentrated in academic and research positions. Lecturers, assistant professors, and research staff roles are where international candidates have the strongest case for H-1B or Green Card support from the university's HR and legal teams.
Understand the Academic Hiring Calendar
University hiring follows a structured academic calendar. Faculty searches typically open in fall for the following academic year. Applying early in the cycle gives you time to clear sponsorship approvals before the H-1B filing window in March.
Confirm Sponsorship Before Advancing
Not every Hofstra role includes sponsorship by default. Before investing in a lengthy application process, confirm directly with the hiring department or HR that the position is eligible for H-1B or employment-based Green Card sponsorship.
Highlight Specialty Occupation Credentials
Hofstra sponsors roles that clearly meet H-1B specialty occupation standards. A direct connection between your degree and the position strengthens the petition. Roles in STEM, business, or law with clear degree requirements are the strongest fit.
Ask About Green Card Support for Long-Term Roles
Hofstra has sponsored employment-based Green Cards for staff in long-term positions. If you're joining in a tenure-track or permanent staff capacity, it's worth asking HR early whether the university supports EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship for the role.
Browse Verified Sponsoring Roles on Migrate Mate
Finding roles at employers with a real sponsorship track record saves time. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by sponsorship history and focus your search on universities like Hofstra that actively support international hires.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hofstra University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Hofstra University sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for faculty, researchers, and professional staff in roles that meet specialty occupation requirements. The university has a consistent track record of H-1B sponsorship, making it a realistic target for international candidates in higher education, research, and related administrative fields.
What visa types does Hofstra University sponsor?
Hofstra University sponsors H-1B and employment-based Green Cards, including EB-2 and EB-3 categories, for qualifying staff and faculty. The university also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students enrolled in its programs, and has sponsored TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in professional roles.
Which departments or roles at Hofstra University are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Academic and research departments are the most active sponsors at Hofstra. Faculty positions across colleges such as the Zarb School of Business, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are frequent candidates for sponsorship. Professional staff roles in IT, finance, and research administration also appear in their sponsorship history.
How do I time my application to Hofstra University around the H-1B process?
Faculty and professional roles at Hofstra typically open in the fall semester for positions beginning the following academic year. To align with the H-1B cap filing window, which opens April 1 each year, aim to have an offer and completed petition documentation in place by early March. Starting conversations with hiring managers in the fall gives you the best timeline margin.
How do I find open roles at Hofstra University that include visa sponsorship?
The most efficient approach is to search on Migrate Mate, which aggregates open positions from verified sponsoring employers so you can filter specifically for universities with a documented sponsorship track record. You can also check Hofstra's own careers portal directly and confirm sponsorship eligibility with HR once you identify a role that matches your background.
