Align your transcript to nuclear operations coursework
Holtec's operations work is technically specialized. Before applying, make sure your transcript clearly shows coursework in mechanical, nuclear, or industrial engineering. Hiring managers for intern roles screen for field alignment before even considering visa complexity.
Verify your school has a CPT agreement pathway
Holtec regularly takes on F-1 students through CPT, but your DSO must approve CPT before your start date. Confirm your university program allows CPT for internship credit and that Holtec's role qualifies under your degree plan.
Target postings tied to specific facility locations
Holtec operates across multiple U.S. sites with different operational needs. Operations Intern postings often specify a facility, and sponsorship decisions are made at the site level. Applying to location-specific roles gives you a cleaner path to an offer with defined sponsorship expectations.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for open Operations Intern roles
Not all of Holtec's job listings are easy to surface by visa type. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Operations Intern positions at Holtec that have confirmed sponsorship history, so you're not applying to roles that won't move forward for international candidates.
Ask about H-1B conversion intent during the offer stage
If you're on F-1 OPT and want to stay past your authorization window, ask your recruiter directly whether Holtec has converted prior interns to full-time H-1B roles. The H-1B lottery registration deadline with USCIS falls in mid-March, so timing your offer relative to that window matters.
Prepare your I-983 training plan before your start date
For STEM OPT extensions, Holtec must sign your Form I-983 training plan before you can file with USCIS. Draft the plan using your actual role responsibilities and get employer sign-off early. Delays in this step can shorten your authorized work period without remedy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Holtec International sponsor H-1B visas for Operations Interns?
Holtec International has a demonstrated history of sponsoring H-1B visas, including for roles in operations functions. For interns specifically, the more common entry point is F-1 CPT or OPT, with H-1B sponsorship typically considered when converting a high-performing intern to a full-time position. If long-term sponsorship is your goal, it's worth clarifying this pathway with the recruiter before accepting an offer.
How do I apply for Operations Intern jobs at Holtec International?
You can browse and apply for Operations Intern positions at Holtec International through Migrate Mate, which surfaces open roles with confirmed sponsorship history so you know which listings are realistic for international candidates. Applications typically require a resume, unofficial transcripts, and confirmation of your current visa or work authorization status. Holtec's campus recruiting cycle often runs in the fall for spring and summer internship terms.
Which visa types does Holtec International commonly use for Operations Intern roles?
Holtec supports F-1 CPT and F-1 OPT for intern-level roles, which covers most students currently enrolled in U.S. universities. STEM OPT extensions are also recognized, giving eligible graduates up to 36 months of work authorization. For candidates on TN visa status or transitioning from another employer's H-1B, Holtec has sponsored those categories for more senior hires, with intern-to-full-time conversions being the most common route to an H-1B.
What qualifications does Holtec International expect for Operations Intern candidates?
Holtec typically looks for candidates enrolled in or recently graduated from engineering programs, particularly mechanical, nuclear, industrial, or systems engineering. Familiarity with technical documentation, safety protocols, or project coordination is a differentiator. Because Holtec operates in a heavily regulated industry, any coursework or project experience involving compliance frameworks, quality assurance, or engineering standards will strengthen your application significantly.
How do visa timelines affect when I should apply for an Operations Intern role at Holtec International?
Timing depends on your visa type. For F-1 CPT, your DSO authorization must be in place before your start date, so apply at least six to eight weeks before the internship begins. For STEM OPT, USCIS recommends filing the extension up to 90 days before your current OPT expires. If Holtec is considering H-1B sponsorship for a full-time conversion, the USCIS registration window opens each March, making fall internships the most strategically timed entry point.
