Align your credentials with nuclear engineering standards
Holtec's mechanical engineering work centers on ASME pressure vessel codes and nuclear safety-class components. Before applying, verify that your academic transcripts and any professional certifications clearly reflect coursework or experience in thermal-hydraulics, structural analysis, or nuclear-grade materials.
Research Holtec's active project pipeline before outreach
Holtec recruits mechanical engineers around specific project phases, particularly SMR reactor construction and decommissioning contracts. Targeting your application to a posted role tied to an active project significantly improves the chance your petition lands during a genuine hiring window.
Clarify CPT and OPT authorization early in conversations
If you're on F-1 status, confirm with your DSO that your internship or full-time offer qualifies for CPT or OPT authorization before accepting. Holtec's engineering work is project-specific, and your start date must align with your authorized work period to avoid status gaps.
Prepare for a multi-step H-1B filing timeline
H-1B registration opens each March, and cap-subject engineers must be selected in the lottery before Holtec can file a petition. Build your job search timeline so you have an offer confirmed well before the registration window and factor in a potential October 1 start date.
Understand how PERM shapes your Green Card path
Holtec sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through the DOL's PERM labor certification process. For mechanical engineers from high-backlog countries, this filing can precede your H-1B approval by years, so ask your recruiter which permanent residency track applies to your role category.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsorship-verified openings
Not every Holtec job posting on general boards signals active visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Mechanical Engineer roles at Holtec that are tied to confirmed sponsorship activity, so you're targeting positions where the process is already established.

Find Mechanical Engineer at Holtec International JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Holtec International sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers?
Yes, Holtec International sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers. The company operates in highly specialized nuclear and energy engineering domains where qualified international candidates are a core part of their talent pipeline. Cap-subject applicants need to be registered in the annual USCIS lottery, which opens each March, before a petition can be filed. Cap-exempt scenarios may apply if you're transitioning from a qualifying institution.
How do I apply for Mechanical Engineer jobs at Holtec International?
Applications go through Holtec International's careers portal, where roles are listed by engineering discipline and project focus. You can also find sponsorship-confirmed Mechanical Engineer openings on Migrate Mate, which filters for roles tied to active visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to Holtec's technical language around ASME codes, nuclear-grade systems, and specific project types such as decommissioning or SMR development.
Which visa types does Holtec International commonly use for Mechanical Engineers?
Holtec sponsors Mechanical Engineers across several visa categories including H-1B for specialty occupation workers, TN for Canadian and Mexican engineers under USMCA, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates. For candidates pursuing permanent residency, Holtec also files EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions through DOL's PERM labor certification process, which is common for engineers in long-term roles.
What qualifications does Holtec International expect for Mechanical Engineer roles?
Holtec's Mechanical Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, nuclear, or structural engineering. Practical experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, finite element analysis software, and nuclear safety classification systems is a consistent hiring signal. Roles tied to spent nuclear fuel or decommissioning projects often favor candidates with QA program exposure or NRC regulatory familiarity alongside core engineering credentials.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Mechanical Engineer at Holtec International?
For H-1B cap-subject engineers, the timeline runs from March lottery registration to an October 1 work start date, assuming selection. USCIS premium processing can reduce petition adjudication to around 15 business days once filed. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border, making it faster. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through DOL typically takes 12 to 24 months for the labor certification stage alone, with additional USCIS processing following that.
