Align your credentials to U.S. academic standards
U.S. universities evaluate foreign degrees carefully. If your highest qualification is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before applying. JSU hiring committees expect documentation that maps your degree to a U.S. equivalent.
Target departments with recurring instructional needs
JSU regularly posts Instructor openings across STEM, business, and liberal arts. Focus applications on departments where your field aligns directly with listed course assignments, not just the generic Instructor title, since sponsorship decisions often rest with department chairs.
Browse open Instructor roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters university jobs by visa sponsorship type, so you can confirm JSU's current Instructor openings support your specific visa category before investing time in a full application package.
Understand how PERM affects long-term sponsorship
If you're targeting permanent residency through an EB-2 or EB-3, JSU must complete a PERM labor certification with the DOL before filing your immigrant petition. Ask HR during negotiations whether the Instructor role is classified as a permanent position, since PERM only applies to ongoing roles.
Prepare a teaching portfolio alongside your visa documents
JSU Instructor candidates are expected to submit syllabi samples, teaching evaluations, or a teaching philosophy statement. Having these ready signals you're a hire-ready candidate, which matters when a department is also weighing the administrative effort of sponsorship.

Find Instructor at Jacksonville State University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Jacksonville State University sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, Jacksonville State University sponsors H-1B visas for Instructor positions. As a higher education institution, JSU qualifies as a cap-exempt employer, meaning it can file H-1B petitions with USCIS at any time of year without waiting for the annual lottery. This is a significant advantage for candidates who missed the cap-subject H-1B registration window.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at Jacksonville State University?
Applications for Instructor roles at JSU are submitted through the university's online careers portal. Most postings require a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, and transcripts. You can also browse current JSU Instructor openings that are verified for visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which lets you filter by visa type before applying.
Which visa types does Jacksonville State University commonly use for Instructor roles?
JSU sponsors several visa types for Instructor positions, including H-1B, J-1, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), and F-1 OPT and CPT for students already enrolled in U.S. programs. For Instructors pursuing permanent residency, JSU has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 green card pathways through PERM labor certification filed with the DOL.
What qualifications does Jacksonville State University expect for Instructor positions?
Most Instructor roles at JSU require at minimum a master's degree in the relevant field, though some positions, particularly in professional or applied disciplines, may accept a bachelor's degree combined with substantial industry experience. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is strongly preferred. Foreign credentials must be evaluated by a NACES-recognized agency to be considered equivalent to U.S. degrees.
How do I time my application to avoid gaps in work authorization?
Timing depends on your current visa status. F-1 OPT holders should apply at least three to four months before OPT expiration to allow time for JSU's HR and international office to process an H-1B or J-1 petition. Because JSU is cap-exempt for H-1B, filings can happen year-round, but USCIS standard processing still takes two to four months without premium processing.
