Frame your degree around specialty occupation standards
Jensen Hughes hires Project Engineers into technical consulting roles that USCIS evaluates as specialty occupations. A degree in fire protection engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field strengthens your H-1B petition far more than a generalist background.
Target open roles by engineering discipline
Jensen Hughes posts Project Engineer openings across fire, security, and risk disciplines. Applying to roles that match your technical specialization increases fit and gives the hiring team a cleaner path to justifying sponsorship through a focused Labor Condition Application with DOL.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Jensen Hughes openings by visa type
Migrate Mate lets you browse Jensen Hughes Project Engineer jobs filtered by the visa types the company sponsors, so you can prioritize roles where your status, whether OPT, H-1B, or TN, is already an expected candidate profile.
Initiate sponsorship conversations before the offer stage
Consulting firms like Jensen Hughes run structured hiring processes. Raising your visa situation during the recruiter screen, not after the technical round, gives HR time to align with legal counsel before an offer is extended, avoiding delays or rescissions late in the process.
Leverage CPT or OPT strategically during internship pipelines
Jensen Hughes recruits Project Engineers through internship-to-full-time pipelines. If you're on F-1, using CPT for an internship builds internal sponsorship familiarity with your profile before your OPT clock starts, reducing friction when the H-1B petition needs to be filed.
Prepare a credentials portfolio aligned to consulting deliverables
Jensen Hughes Project Engineers produce technical reports, code analyses, and client assessments. Bring a portfolio of project documentation, not just academic transcripts, to interviews. This directly supports the specialty occupation argument USCIS requires when evaluating your petition.

Find Project Engineer at Jensen Hughes JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Jensen Hughes sponsor H-1B visas for Project Engineers?
Yes, Jensen Hughes sponsors H-1B visas for Project Engineers. The company operates across fire protection, security, and risk consulting, and these roles typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards, which requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical discipline. Your employer files the H-1B petition with USCIS on your behalf, so you'll need an offer before the process begins.
Which visa types does Jensen Hughes commonly use for Project Engineer roles?
Jensen Hughes sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visas for Project Engineer positions. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates, while H-1B is the primary long-term work visa for those moving into full-time consulting roles. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations may also be eligible for TN status at the border or port of entry.
What qualifications does Jensen Hughes expect for Project Engineer candidates?
Jensen Hughes typically looks for a bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field. Relevant project experience, familiarity with building codes and life safety standards, and the ability to produce technical reports for clients are common expectations. Professional Engineer licensure or progress toward it is often valued for mid-level openings.
How do I apply for Project Engineer jobs at Jensen Hughes?
You can find and apply for Project Engineer roles at Jensen Hughes through Migrate Mate, which lists open positions filtered by visa sponsorship type so you can identify roles that match your immigration status. Applications typically go through an initial recruiter screen, followed by technical and behavioral interviews. Disclosing your visa situation during the recruiter screen helps the team plan sponsorship logistics before an offer is made.
How do I time my H-1B filing if I'm on OPT and get an offer from Jensen Hughes?
If you're on F-1 OPT and receive an offer, Jensen Hughes would need to file your H-1B petition in the April lottery window for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're in a STEM field, a 24-month STEM OPT extension can bridge the gap. Confirm your OPT end date early so you and your employer's legal team can plan the filing timeline without a gap in work authorization.
