Align your credentials to KPMG's specialty tax tracks
KPMG's Tax Senior Manager openings cluster around international tax, M&A tax, and state and local tax practices. Tailor your resume to reflect depth in one of these areas rather than positioning yourself as a generalist, since KPMG evaluates senior hires against specific service line needs.
Pursue CPA licensure before applying at Senior Manager level
KPMG treats CPA licensure as a threshold requirement for Tax Senior Manager roles, not a preference. If you're on OPT or H-1B and haven't yet sat for the exam, completing it before you apply removes a common friction point in their internal approval process for sponsored candidates.
Target KPMG's campus and experienced hire portals separately
KPMG routes lateral Senior Manager hires through its experienced professionals portal, which operates on a different cadence than campus recruiting. Use Migrate Mate to filter active Tax Senior Manager openings at KPMG by visa type so you're applying to roles where sponsorship has already been confirmed.
Understand how KPMG structures H-1B timing for lateral hires
For lateral H-1B transfers, KPMG can file a cap-exempt petition immediately, meaning you don't need to wait for the annual lottery. Confirm with your KPMG recruiter early whether your current H-1B status makes you cap-exempt, since this affects how quickly an offer can convert to a start date.
Expect a PERM labor certification for Green Card sponsorship
KPMG typically sponsors eligible Tax Senior Managers for EB-2 or EB-3 Green Cards through the PERM process filed with DOL. PERM timelines currently run 18 to 24 months for audit completion, so ask your recruiter about the firm's internal policy on when sponsorship eligibility begins after your start date.
Prepare client-facing experience narratives for the interview process
KPMG's Tax Senior Manager interviews assess whether you can manage client relationships and lead engagement teams, not just technical tax knowledge. Come prepared with specific examples of leading multi-jurisdiction tax projects or advising on cross-border structures, since these distinguish competitive candidates at this level.

Find Tax Senior Manager at KPMG JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does KPMG sponsor H-1B visas for Tax Senior Managers?
Yes, KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for Tax Senior Manager roles. Because KPMG is a large established employer with a dedicated immigration function, it can file H-1B transfer petitions for candidates already holding H-1B status without waiting for the annual lottery. New H-1B applicants without existing status would need to go through the cap-subject lottery process, typically filed each April for an October start.
How do I apply for Tax Senior Manager jobs at KPMG?
Apply through KPMG's experienced professionals careers portal, which handles lateral hires separately from campus recruiting. Search by service line such as international tax or M&A tax to find openings aligned with your background. You can also browse active Tax Senior Manager openings at KPMG filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate before applying directly through KPMG's official portal.
Which visa types does KPMG commonly use for Tax Senior Manager roles?
KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for most international Tax Senior Manager hires. Australian citizens are eligible for the E-3 visa, which bypasses the H-1B lottery and allows for simpler renewals. For longer-term permanent residency, KPMG sponsors eligible employees through EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa categories, typically through the PERM labor certification process filed with DOL.
What qualifications does KPMG expect for a Tax Senior Manager role?
KPMG typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, an active CPA license, and around eight or more years of progressively complex tax experience, with a meaningful portion in public accounting. Depth in a specific practice area such as international tax, partnership taxation, or federal M&A tax is expected at the Senior Manager level, along with demonstrated experience managing client engagements and supervising junior staff.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining KPMG as a Tax Senior Manager?
For H-1B transfers from an existing employer, KPMG can typically file within weeks of an accepted offer, and you can start working as soon as USCIS receives the petition. For cap-subject H-1B cases, the timeline runs from April lottery registration to an October 1 start date. Green Card sponsorship through PERM generally begins after an internal eligibility period and the DOL audit process currently adds 18 to 24 months before an I-140 petition can be filed with USCIS.
