Target research and faculty roles first
Lehigh's strongest sponsorship activity comes from academic and research positions. Faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and lab-based roles in engineering, science, and business are the most common entry points for international candidates seeking visa support.
Understand the academic hiring calendar
University hiring follows the academic year. Faculty searches typically open in fall for positions starting the following year. Applying early and tracking postings from August onward puts you ahead of most candidates targeting Lehigh's sponsored roles.
Ask explicitly about H-1B and Green Card sponsorship
Lehigh sponsors both H-1B and employment-based Green Cards, including EB-2 and EB-3 pathways. When interviewing, confirm which visa type applies to your role, faculty positions often lead to permanent residency, while staff roles vary by department.
OPT and CPT can open the door
If you're currently on F-1 status, Lehigh supports OPT and CPT hiring. Many international hires begin in OPT-eligible roles before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship, making it a practical stepping stone for students and recent graduates.
Browse verified sponsorship history before applying
Knowing a university's actual sponsorship track record helps you prioritize your job search. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus your energy on employers like Lehigh that consistently come through.
TN visa holders should flag Canadian or Mexican citizenship early
Lehigh sponsors TN visas for eligible roles. If you're a Canadian or Mexican citizen in a qualifying profession, disclosing your citizenship status early in conversations with HR can help the university confirm TN eligibility before an offer is extended.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Lehigh University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Lehigh University sponsors H-1B visas, particularly for faculty, researchers, and professional staff in technical or specialized fields. The university has a consistent track record of H-1B filings, with most sponsorship concentrated in academic and research departments. If you're offered a qualifying role, Lehigh's HR and international offices typically manage the petition process on your behalf.
Which visa types does Lehigh University sponsor?
Lehigh University sponsors H-1B visas, employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas. The visa type offered depends on your role, citizenship, and employment terms. Faculty and long-term research positions are most likely to include Green Card sponsorship, while staff and contractor roles more commonly involve H-1B or OPT arrangements.
Which departments or roles at Lehigh University are most likely to sponsor visas?
Engineering, computer science, business, and the natural sciences are Lehigh's most active hiring areas for sponsored positions. Research-intensive roles including postdoctoral fellowships, tenure-track faculty, and lab coordinators consistently draw international candidates. Administrative and operational staff roles occasionally qualify for H-1B sponsorship depending on the degree requirement and specialization of the position.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Lehigh University?

This lets you confirm Lehigh's sponsorship history and see which positions are currently open, without having to guess whether a particular posting will actually come with visa support.
How do I approach the application timeline for a sponsored role at Lehigh University?
Academic hiring at Lehigh moves on a structured calendar. Faculty searches typically open in fall and conclude by spring for the following academic year. Staff roles are posted year-round but can move quickly once a candidate is identified. If H-1B sponsorship is needed, keep the April 1 USCIS filing deadline in mind, since your start date will affect which cap year applies to your petition.
