We have an exciting opportunity for a Durability CAE Technical Specialist to lead virtual durability sign-off and simulation for vehicle structures and closure systems. This is a highly visible role where you’ll serve as a technical authority, driving durability decisions early in development and helping ensure robust, lightweight designs before physical prototypes are built.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead structural durability and fatigue sign-off for body structures, frames, closures (doors, hood, liftgate, tailgate), and EV battery enclosures
- Own closures durability performance, including slam events, hinge/latch/striker systems, sag resistance, sealing loads, and misuse scenarios
- Perform advanced implicit and explicit CAE simulations (impact, pothole, curb strike, cyclic loading, closure events)
- Drive correlation between CAE and physical test data (proving grounds, durability rigs, closure labs)
- Develop and translate road load data into durability load cases and damage metrics
- Lead root cause analysis and provide physics-based design recommendations
- Mentor engineers and help advance CAE methodologies and best practices
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, closures, body, manufacturing, and test teams
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
What You Bring:
- 10+ years of experience in durability CAE and structural analysis
- Strong expertise in closures systems (doors, hood, liftgate, tailgate)
- Advanced proficiency with Abaqus (implicit & explicit) and/or Nastran
- Experience with fatigue tools such as nCode DesignLife or FEMFAT
- Deep understanding of nonlinear simulation, contact modeling, and event-based analysis
- Experience with weld, adhesive, and bonded joint durability
- Proficiency with ANSA / Meta (or similar pre/post tools)
- Strong understanding of fatigue, materials behavior, and failure mechanisms
- Excellent communication skills — able to translate complex CAE results into clear recommendations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Python or MATLAB scripting
- Exposure to AI/ML applications in CAE (ROMs, PhysicsAI, SimAI, etc.)
- Background in topology optimization or generative design
