Align your credentials to Liberty's mission
Liberty University is a faith-based institution, so demonstrating how your academic background fits their Christian liberal arts mission strengthens your application. Review their faculty standards and frame your teaching philosophy accordingly in your cover letter.
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires Instructor roles to qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B. A master's degree or higher in your specific teaching field is usually expected. A general bachelor's degree in an unrelated discipline will likely not support a successful petition.
Target departments with consistent hiring volume
Liberty's online and residential programs generate ongoing Instructor demand across health sciences, business, and divinity. Targeting departments with year-round open postings signals active hiring budgets and a higher likelihood of sponsorship willingness for the right candidate.
Confirm sponsorship before investing in the process
Before your interview advances, directly ask HR whether the department has processed visa sponsorship for Instructor roles before. Some departments at large universities handle it centrally, while others require department-level budget approval to initiate an H-1B petition.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Instructor openings by visa type
Search Migrate Mate to find Liberty University Instructor postings filtered by the visa types they sponsor, including H-1B and TN. This saves time by surfacing only roles where sponsorship has been used for comparable teaching positions.
Understand TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
If you're a Canadian or Mexican citizen, the TN visa category includes college or university-level teachers and bypasses the H-1B cap and lottery entirely. File directly at a port of entry or pre-clearance location with your offer letter and academic credentials.

Find Instructor at Liberty University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Liberty University sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, Liberty University has sponsored H-1B visas for Instructor roles. As a large university with both residential and online programs, they have the institutional infrastructure to file petitions through USCIS. That said, sponsorship decisions are typically made at the department level, so confirming budget and intent early in the hiring process is important.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at Liberty University?
Applications go through Liberty University's official careers portal, where Instructor postings are listed by department and modality (residential or online). You'll typically submit a resume or CV, a cover letter, and academic transcripts. Some departments also request a statement of faith. You can also browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate before applying directly through Liberty's portal.
Which visa types are commonly used for Instructor roles at Liberty University?
H-1B is the most common visa type for full-time Instructor positions at Liberty University. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying teaching categories. F-1 OPT and CPT can support shorter-term instructional roles for students already enrolled at U.S. institutions, though full-time Instructor positions generally require a more permanent work authorization pathway.
What qualifications does Liberty University expect for Instructor positions?
Most Instructor roles at Liberty University require at least a master's degree in the relevant subject area, with a doctorate preferred for upper-division or graduate-level courses. Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level strengthens your application. For USCIS H-1B purposes, your degree must directly correspond to the field you'll be teaching, not just a broadly related discipline.
How do I time a visa sponsorship request relative to Liberty University's hiring timeline?
H-1B petitions for cap-subject employees must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date, so if you're negotiating an offer in the spring, that window is tight. If you're already on F-1 OPT, your employer can file while you're working. TN status can be obtained at the border with an offer letter in hand, making it considerably faster than H-1B for eligible candidates.
