Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
International medical graduates need active ECFMG certification to practice psychiatry in the U.S. Get this confirmed early, LifeStance's credentialing process moves fast once an offer is made, and delays here stall everything downstream.
Target states with the most open positions
LifeStance operates across dozens of states, but hiring volume is uneven by region. Research which states have the highest concentration of open Psychiatrist roles and prioritize applications there, more open roles means faster hiring timelines and less competition for sponsorship consideration.
Ask directly about TN versus EB sponsorship pathways
Canadian and Mexican-trained psychiatrists should ask LifeStance's recruiting team which visa pathway they're set up to support for your situation. TN and EB-2 or EB-3 routes have very different timelines, and knowing which one they're prepared to file shapes your start date planning.
Clarify green card sponsorship intent during the offer stage
EB-2 and EB-3 PERM-based filings require employer initiation, and the DOL labor certification process alone can take a year or more. Confirm before signing whether LifeStance intends to sponsor permanent residency, not just initial work authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Psychiatrist roles by sponsorship type
Not every LifeStance posting lists visa sponsorship details upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter roles by the visa types LifeStance has sponsored, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already part of the hiring picture.
Prepare state licensure documentation before your interview
LifeStance requires state-level medical licensure to credential and deploy you at a clinic. Gather your medical school transcripts, residency completion letters, and board certification documents before interviewing, delays in licensure verification directly delay your USCIS petition filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does LifeStance Health sponsor H-1B visas for Psychiatrists?
LifeStance Health has sponsored work visas for Psychiatrists, though their primary pathways tend to be employment-based Green Card routes such as EB-2 and EB-3, as well as TN visa status for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals. H-1B visa sponsorship is less common for clinical roles at LifeStance, but it is not categorically off the table. You should ask their recruiting team directly about which visa types they support for your specific situation.
How do I apply for Psychiatrist jobs at LifeStance Health?
You can browse and apply for open Psychiatrist roles directly through LifeStance's careers page or through Migrate Mate, where you can filter specifically for positions with visa sponsorship history. When applying, be upfront about your work authorization needs in your initial outreach. LifeStance's recruiting team handles immigration-related questions early in the process, so raising it before the offer stage saves time.
Which visa types does LifeStance Health commonly use for Psychiatrist roles?
LifeStance has used EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card sponsorship, TN status for Canadian and Mexican psychiatrists, and in some cases F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates in training programs. The right visa type depends on your citizenship, training background, and career stage. EB-2 National Interest Waivers are also worth exploring independently if you qualify, since they don't require employer initiation through the PERM process.
What qualifications does LifeStance Health expect for sponsored Psychiatrist positions?
LifeStance requires candidates to hold an MD or DO, have completed a psychiatry residency accredited by the ACGME, and be board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. International medical graduates also need active ECFMG certification. State medical licensure is required before you can be credentialed and deployed, so the earlier you start that process, the shorter the overall timeline from offer to first patient.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Psychiatrist at LifeStance Health?
Timeline depends on the visa type. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at a port of entry in a single day. EB-2 or EB-3 PERM-based sponsorship involves a DOL labor certification phase that typically takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS even begins adjudicating the immigrant petition. F-1 OPT is employer-independent and starts with a USCIS application you file yourself, with a 90-day processing window. Plan your timeline around these phases before accepting an offer.
