At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
Bring your passion for games and distributed systems to help us reinvent video games at global scale. Netflix transformed how people watch television; now join us to build the next-generation gaming platform for 300+ million members worldwide and the industry’s best-in-class distribution platform for game developers.
The Opportunity: Building the Backbone of Netflix Gaming
Games Systems is the backend team building and operating the foundational services that power the Games Developer Platform and the infrastructure supporting Cloud Games. Our mission is to enhance player discovery, gameplay, and engagement across Netflix's entire game portfolio — equipping developers both internal and external, with the platform capabilities they need to ship, iterate, and grow their product experiences.
As an L5 Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and scaling services that empower game developers and elevate the global member experience. You’ll work on high-throughput, low-latency infrastructure for running games, while also building features that drive player engagement both within individual games and across the broader Netflix platform—reaching millions of members worldwide.
Own Critical Infrastructure: Design and operate the foundational systems underpinning Games: identity/authentication/authorization abstractions, and control plane services.
Build the Developer Platform: Architect and evolve core services that form the table stakes of the Netflix Game Developer Platform — cloud saves, leaderboards, achievements, and the APIs and SDK surfaces through which game developers build and iterate.
Mentor and Grow the Team: Be a day-to-day technical resource for junior engineers through design pairing, code review, and hands-on guidance.
Operate What You Build: Own the full lifecycle from design through production, with a high bar for reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
What You'll Bring
- 10+ years of professional experience designing, building, and operating highly available distributed backend systems at scale.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems — low-latency architecture, and fault-tolerant design, operating large-scale distributed datastores.
- Strong experience building developer-facing platform services and APIs (REST, gRPC, SDK surfaces).
- Proficiency in one or more modern backend languages (e.g., Java, C++).
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), microservices, and both SQL and NoSQL data stores.
- A track record of technical leadership — driving complex projects end-to-end, influencing across team boundaries, and raising the quality bar around you.
- Comfort with high ambiguity — ability to define structure and clarity from first principles in a fast-moving environment.
- Prior experience in the gaming industry or working on game platform infrastructure is a plus.
We seek to grow inclusive and diverse teams that will enhance our perspectives, skill sets, and behaviors. We highly encourage you to apply if your background will complement us, even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. Your skills and passion will stand out — and set you apart — especially if your career has taken some extraordinary twists and turns.

Tailor your resume to Netflix's infrastructure stack
Netflix's cloud engineering teams run heavily on AWS, with internal tooling like Spinnaker and Titus central to their stack. Framing your experience around distributed systems, microservices reliability, and cloud-native deployment pipelines makes your profile immediately recognizable to their hiring team.
Clarify your visa category before applying
Netflix sponsors several visa types, so know which category applies to your situation before your first interview. Confusing H-1B cap-subject timing with cap-exempt options, or misunderstanding OPT STEM extension eligibility, can create preventable delays once an offer is on the table.
Time your application around H-1B registration windows
If you need an H-1B, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date. Targeting Netflix roles in the December through February hiring cycle gives your recruiter enough lead time to align an offer with registration before the window closes.
Ask recruiters about Netflix's internal immigration process early
Netflix handles visa petitions through in-house legal and external immigration counsel. Asking during the offer stage how the company coordinates LCA filing with DOL and I-129 preparation helps you understand your actual start date and avoids surprises after you accept.
Prioritize roles that match your degree field precisely
Specialty occupation approval for cloud engineering roles depends on a direct connection between your degree field and the position. A computer science or software engineering degree maps cleanly, but adjacent fields like information systems may require additional documentation to satisfy USCIS requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Netflix cloud roles by visa type
Identifying which open Cloud Software Engineer positions at Netflix are actively accepting sponsored candidates saves time in your search. Migrate Mate lets you filter Netflix job listings by the specific visa types the company sponsors, so you apply to the right roles from the start.

Find Cloud Software Engineer at Netflix JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Cloud Software Engineers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Cloud Software Engineer roles. The company works with immigration counsel to file Labor Condition Applications with the DOL and submit I-129 petitions to USCIS on behalf of selected candidates. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, timing your offer to align with the March registration window is critical, since Netflix will need to register you before an offer converts to a start date.
How do I apply for Cloud Software Engineer jobs at Netflix?
You can browse and apply to Cloud Software Engineer positions at Netflix directly through the Netflix careers site or through Migrate Mate, which filters open roles by visa sponsorship type so you can identify positions where sponsorship is available. Netflix's engineering hiring process typically involves a recruiter screen, technical phone interviews covering systems design and distributed computing, and a final interview loop before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly use for Cloud Software Engineers?
Netflix sponsors a range of visa categories for Cloud Software Engineer roles, including H-1B, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students currently in the U.S. Candidates already on employer-sponsored Green Card pathways, including EB-2 and EB-3, are also supported. The right category depends on your citizenship, current status, and where you are in the immigration process.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for Cloud Software Engineer roles?
Netflix cloud engineering roles typically require deep experience with large-scale distributed systems, cloud platforms like AWS, and strong proficiency in languages such as Java, Python, or Go. For visa sponsorship purposes, a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field is generally required to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation standards. Candidates without a directly aligned degree may need to supplement their application with evidence of equivalent training or experience.
How long does the sponsorship and onboarding process take for Netflix Cloud Software Engineers?
Timeline depends heavily on which visa category applies. H-1B processing through USCIS takes approximately three to six months under standard processing, with premium processing available to reduce that window to around 15 business days. E-3 and TN visas can often be obtained within a few weeks through consular processing. Netflix typically initiates the sponsorship process after a formal offer is signed, so factoring in government processing time when negotiating a start date is practical.
