Does Portland State University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Portland State University sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff roles. Like most universities, sponsorship is typically tied to positions that require a specific degree in a directly related field. If you're applying for an academic or research-focused role, H-1B eligibility is generally built into the hiring process, though it varies by department.
What types of visas does Portland State University sponsor?
Portland State University sponsors H-1B and immigrant visas including the EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card categories. It also works with F-1 students through OPT and CPT programs, and supports TN visas for qualified Canadian and Mexican nationals. The range of visa types reflects PSU's experience hiring international talent across academic, research, and administrative roles.
Which departments or roles at Portland State University are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Portland State University is most commonly associated with faculty and research positions, particularly in STEM fields, social sciences, and programs tied to PSU's urban research mission. Specialized professional and administrative roles in areas like IT, finance, and institutional research may also qualify, though academic hiring drives the majority of visa petitions.
How do I find open jobs at Portland State University that include visa sponsorship?
The most reliable approach is to search Portland State University's official careers portal and look for role descriptions that reference immigration or visa support. Migrate Mate also lists verified sponsoring employers so you can browse PSU openings filtered by sponsorship history, saving time you'd otherwise spend verifying eligibility employer by employer.
How do I time my application to Portland State University around visa sponsorship deadlines?
If you're targeting an H-1B at PSU and not already in a cap-exempt status, timing matters significantly. Universities are cap-exempt employers, which means PSU can file H-1B petitions year-round without being subject to the annual lottery. This gives you more flexibility than a private sector employer, though you should still confirm your status and start the hiring process well before your current authorization expires.
