Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Instructional Assistant Jobs at Purdue University Jobs
Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Purdue files H-1B petitions under the specialty occupation standard, so your degree must directly relate to the Instructional Assistant role you're targeting. A degree in education, curriculum design, or your specific subject area strengthens the petition considerably.
Target departments actively hiring instructional staff
Purdue's STEM, engineering, and professional studies departments cycle through instructional hiring each semester. Applying directly through Purdue's careers portal and filtering by department gives you visibility into roles before they fill through internal pipelines.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Instructional Assistant roles
Sponsorship-filtered job searches save time when targeting university employers. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Instructional Assistant openings at Purdue University and identify which positions are actively open for international candidates.
Understand Purdue's PERM timeline for permanent residency
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, Purdue must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment process before filing a PERM application. University PERM cases often run 12 to 18 months from job posting to DOL certification, so raise green card interest early in your employment.
Request a written sponsorship commitment before resigning elsewhere
University HR departments process sponsorship through their international offices, not hiring managers. Get written confirmation from Purdue's international services office that sponsorship is approved for your specific role before you give notice at a current employer.

Find Instructional Assistant at Purdue University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Purdue University sponsor H-1B visas for Instructional Assistants?
Yes, Purdue University sponsors H-1B visas for Instructional Assistant roles that qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards. The role must require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. Purdue's Office of International Students and Scholars manages the petition process, so your hiring department coordinates with them rather than handling filings directly.
How do I apply for Instructional Assistant jobs at Purdue University?
Applications go through Purdue's official careers portal at careers.purdue.edu. Search for Instructional Assistant or related instructional titles and apply directly to the department posting. You can also browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which lists verified positions at Purdue for international candidates.
Which visa types are commonly used for Instructional Assistant roles at Purdue University?
Purdue supports several visa pathways for Instructional Assistants. F-1 OPT and CPT are common for recent graduates still on student status. H-1B sponsorship is available for longer-term employment in qualifying specialty occupation roles. TN visas apply for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible professional categories. EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship is also available for permanent positions.
What qualifications are expected for Instructional Assistant roles at Purdue University?
Most Instructional Assistant postings at Purdue require at minimum a bachelor's degree, and many department-specific roles prefer graduate-level credentials or subject matter expertise aligned to the courses being supported. For H-1B purposes, your degree field must directly correspond to your assigned instructional duties. Practical teaching experience, curriculum development skills, or relevant research backgrounds strengthen your application.
How do I navigate the visa filing timeline after receiving a Purdue offer?
Once Purdue extends an offer, their international services office initiates the petition process. For H-1B, USCIS requires the employer to file by April 1 for an October 1 start under the annual cap, so late-cycle offers may require a gap year or cap-exempt filing strategy. TN and OPT transitions move faster, often within 30 to 60 days of a confirmed offer.
