We’re energized by the potential to power more learners through multiple approaches and various tools.
Let’s Build the Future of Learning
Join us to design and deliver AI-powered learning tools that scale across the world and unlock human potential.
About The Team
Quizlet's Product Engineering organization builds the core experiences that help millions of students and teachers achieve their learning goals. We collaborate across teams to achieve user-centric outcomes, focusing on developing intuitive interfaces, engaging learning tools, and robust, scalable systems. You’ll be joining a passionate group of engineers, designers, product managers, and data scientists dedicated to solving real-world educational challenges. Our teams operate with autonomy, embrace experimentation, and are deeply committed to user-centric design. We value transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration at all levels.
About The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team building Quizlet’s Ads platform team, a core part of how we sustainably support millions of learners worldwide. This team owns the end-to-end ads stack, including programmatic and direct ads, video ads, SDK and exchange integrations, and partnerships with ad quality and measurement vendors, across web, iOS, and Android. In this role, you’ll lead and grow a high-performing group of engineers while partnering closely with Product, Data, Design, Revenue, and external partners to shape the ads roadmap and execution. You’ll drive engineering excellence in systems that must balance scale, performance, reliability, user experience, and monetization impact. As a senior leader, you’ll stay technically engaged, influencing architecture, guiding complex integrations, and leading initiatives that improve platform robustness and developer velocity. This role requires comfort operating across multiple platforms and domains, navigating tradeoffs between product experience and revenue goals, and building systems that perform at global scale. We’re happy to share that this is an onsite position in our New York office. To help foster team collaboration, we require that employees be in the office a minimum of three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by your manager or the company. We believe that this working environment facilitates increased work efficiency, team partnership, and supports growth as an employee and organization.
In This Role, You Will
- Lead and directly manage a team of top-notch software engineers responsible for building and operating publisher advertising systems, including ad delivery, targeting, measurement, and platform capabilities across web and mobile
- Partner closely with Product, Data, Revenue, Design, and Ads business teams to define strategy, roadmap, and success metrics for ads and monetization initiatives
- Own execution and delivery across multiple concurrent workstreams, balancing revenue impact, user experience, platform reliability, and regulatory requirements
- Drive architectural decisions for high-scale, low-latency systems, including third-party integrations, experimentation frameworks, and platform abstractions
- Champion engineering excellence in areas such as system reliability, performance optimization, observability, and safe rollout practices
- Foster an inclusive, feedback-driven team culture that prioritizes psychological safety, technical growth, and career development
- Navigate ambiguity and cross-functional complexity, proactively unblocking dependencies across product lines, platforms, and external partners
What You Bring To The Table
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years leading engineering teams, ideally in a consumer-facing or platform-oriented environment
- Proven experience delivering business-critical systems that balance monetization goals, user engagement, and long-term technical sustainability
- Strong technical foundation in backend, full-stack, or mobile engineering, with the ability to engage deeply in system design and architectural tradeoffs
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in TypeScript, Swift, or Kotlin/Java, with a strong understanding of production-level mobile or web codebases and the ability to stay technically engaged with the team
- Hands-on experience designing and operating highly scalable, distributed systems that integrate with third-party services or SDKs
- Clear, effective communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and build teams that consistently grow in impact and ownership
- Deep understanding of agile execution, prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration
- Strong track record of stakeholder management, aligning engineering delivery with product, revenue, and business priorities
Bonus Points If You Have
- Experience building or scaling advertising, monetization, or marketplace platforms in a publisher or consumer internet company
- Familiarity with programmatic advertising ecosystems, measurement, experimentation, or ad quality / compliance considerations
- Background in performance-sensitive or data-intensive systems (e.g., low-latency APIs, real-time decisioning, analytics pipelines)
- Experience leading teams across multiple platforms (web, iOS, Android) or mobile-first environments
- Hands-on involvement in incident response, on-call rotations, or operational excellence initiatives
- Demonstrated success in hiring, retaining, and developing diverse, high-performing teams
Compensation, Benefits & Perks
- Quizlet is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Salary transparency helps to mitigate unfair hiring practices when it comes to discrimination and pay gaps. Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a starting base salary of $235,689 - $353,533, depending on location and experience, as well as company stock options
- Collaborate with your manager and team to create a healthy work-life balance
- 20 vacation days that we expect you to take!
- Competitive health, dental, and vision insurance (100% employee and 75% dependent PPO, Dental, VSP Choice)
- Employer-sponsored 401k plan with company match
- Access to LinkedIn Learning and other resources to support professional growth
- Paid Family Leave, FSA, HSA, Commuter benefits, and Wellness benefits

Tailor your resume for Quizlet's stack
Quizlet's engineering roles consistently surface skills like distributed systems, backend infrastructure, and ML-adjacent tooling. Align your resume to those patterns before applying so your profile clears their technical screen without ambiguity.
Confirm sponsorship willingness before interviews
Quizlet has sponsored H-1B and employment-based Green Card petitions for engineering hires. Ask your recruiter directly whether the specific role is open to candidates requiring sponsorship before you invest time in multiple interview rounds.
Time your application around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need an H-1B, USCIS opens registration in early March for an October 1 start date. Starting your job search at Quizlet in the fall gives you enough runway to receive an offer and have your employer file before the registration window opens.
Leverage OPT STEM extension eligibility strategically
F-1 students in computer science or engineering fields qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving you up to three years of work authorization. That window covers at least two H-1B lottery cycles, which meaningfully reduces the urgency pressure on both you and Quizlet.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Quizlet's open engineering roles
Browsing by company and visa type helps you zero in on roles where sponsorship is confirmed rather than assumed. Use Migrate Mate to surface Quizlet's active engineering postings filtered to your visa status so you're not applying blind.
Understand what PERM means for your long-term timeline
For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, Quizlet would need to complete a DOL PERM labor certification before filing your immigrant petition. This process typically takes one to two years, so raise the green card question early in offer negotiations rather than after you've joined.

Find Engineering at Quizlet JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Quizlet sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Quizlet has sponsored H-1B visas for engineering roles. If you're a current H-1B holder or need cap-subject sponsorship, confirm with your recruiter early in the process that the specific role qualifies. Quizlet has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card petitions for engineering staff, though that process involves a separate DOL PERM filing and a longer timeline.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Quizlet?
Apply directly through Quizlet's careers page, where engineering roles are listed by team and seniority level. Before submitting, review the job description carefully for technical requirements around systems design, backend development, or machine learning. You can also browse Quizlet's open engineering positions filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which lets you confirm sponsorship eligibility before you apply.
Which visa types does Quizlet commonly sponsor for Engineering roles?
Quizlet sponsors H-1B visas and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for engineering candidates, including the 24-month STEM OPT extension available to computer science and engineering graduates. The company has also filed employment-based immigrant petitions under EB-2 and EB-3 categories. TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations under the USMCA agreement.
What qualifications does Quizlet expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
Quizlet's engineering roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies USCIS specialty occupation requirements for H-1B purposes. Beyond credentials, the team prioritizes hands-on experience with distributed systems, API design, or data infrastructure. Senior roles add expectations around technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration on product-facing features.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship at Quizlet?
If you're on F-1 OPT, start your job search at least three to four months before your OPT expires to leave room for the offer, onboarding, and any H-1B filing preparation. H-1B cap registration opens each March for an October 1 start, so an offer finalized by late February gives Quizlet's immigration counsel enough time to file. If you're already H-1B-sponsored elsewhere, a transfer to Quizlet can begin on your start date once they file a new I-129 petition.
