- Develop infrastructure (frontend & backend) that empowers product engineers to rapidly ship delightful user experiences.
- Design and build durable, well-crafted interfaces between the Agent and internal systems, as well as external agentic systems (MCP).
Required Skills And Experience
- 5+ years professional experience in building backend services, systems and platforms.
- Someone who values simplicity and pragmatism—you think radically but ship incrementally.
- Self-directed and comfortable working autonomously.
- Collaborative and team-oriented with a strong sense of shared ownership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience across the full-stack.
- Experience building AI powered tooling or products.
- Experience with collaborative editing technologies such as Operational Transforms (OT), CRDTs, or the inner workings of Git.

Tailor your experience to Replit's stack
Replit's backend runs on distributed systems, real-time collaboration infrastructure, and container orchestration. Frame your resume around experience with those specific domains rather than general backend work. Interviewers will probe for depth in exactly those areas.
Verify your H-1B specialty occupation framing
USCIS requires that your role qualify as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field. Confirm your job description maps to a defined computer science or engineering discipline before your offer letter is drafted.
Ask about sponsorship early in the process
Raise visa sponsorship in the recruiter screen, not after an offer is extended. Replit operates on lean hiring timelines and surfacing your H-1B status upfront prevents delays caused by internal approval processes that some teams need before extending sponsored offers.
Time your application around the H-1B cap
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. If you're interviewing in late winter or spring, align your target offer date with that window so your employer isn't forced into a gap period before you can legally start.
Build a portfolio demonstrating distributed systems work
Replit's engineering interviews for backend roles consistently test systems design at scale. Concrete examples of work involving message queues, microservices, or low-latency APIs are more persuasive than a strong generalist background when competing for sponsored positions.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Backend Engineer roles at Replit
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship type, so you can identify Backend Engineer openings at Replit that are open to H-1B candidates without sifting through roles that don't offer sponsorship.

Find Backend Engineer at Replit JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Replit sponsor H-1B visas for Backend Engineers?
Yes, Replit sponsors H-1B visas for Backend Engineer roles. H-1B sponsorship is the primary pathway used for international hires in technical positions at U.S. technology companies of Replit's profile. If you're applying as an international candidate, raise your visa status during the recruiter screen so the team can confirm sponsorship eligibility for the specific role before the process advances.
How do I apply for Backend Engineer jobs at Replit?
You can find and apply to Backend Engineer openings at Replit through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles specifically open to visa-sponsored candidates. Applications typically involve a recruiter screen, a technical assessment focused on systems design and distributed architecture, and a final round of interviews with the engineering team. Confirming your need for H-1B sponsorship at the recruiter stage keeps the process moving without surprises later.
Which visa types are commonly used for Backend Engineer roles at Replit?
The H-1B is the standard visa category for Backend Engineers at U.S. technology companies, including Replit. It requires your role to qualify as a specialty occupation tied to a specific technical field, which backend engineering roles in cloud infrastructure and distributed systems generally satisfy. Some candidates already holding L-1 or O-1 status may also be eligible, depending on their background and the specific role.
What qualifications are expected for Backend Engineer positions at Replit?
Replit's Backend Engineer roles focus on cloud infrastructure, real-time systems, and scalable APIs. A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is the baseline requirement, which also satisfies the H-1B specialty occupation standard. Practical depth in distributed systems, container orchestration, and backend performance is weighted heavily in interviews alongside your formal credentials.
How do I time the H-1B filing process when targeting a role at Replit?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration in early March for an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer from Replit in late spring or summer, your employer will file the petition in the following April lottery cycle, which means a wait of up to a year before you can start on H-1B status. Candidates already on OPT or STEM OPT can often begin working while the petition is pending, which closes most of that gap.
