Impact
Shipt's design system is moving past being a static component library. We are building a design platform: the operating system that every Shipt product surface runs on. Tokens, components, patterns, and the pipeline that delivers them into code are the substrate that lets product teams move fast without fragmenting the experience.
As the Director of Product Design, you will lead the multi-year vision for Shipt's design platform, treating the system as the operating layer that every product team builds on rather than a library they reference. You will shape how the platform scales across Customer, Shopper, and Partner experiences, influence cross-functional leadership in Engineering, Product, and Research, and lead a team of systems designers who are setting the standard for how design platforms operate in the AI era. The ideal candidate thinks in systems and data schemas, has a real point of view on the design-to-code problem, and is already using GenAI tools in their daily practice rather than waiting for them to mature. The Director of Product Design is responsible for establishing the operating model for how the design platform gets built, governed, and adopted, in close collaboration with Engineering on shared component contracts and pipeline ownership. You will define how we measure the platform and connect platform investment to measurable business outcomes for the broader organization. This is a hybrid position that is based out of San Francisco, CA, Birmingham, AL, or Minneapolis, MN.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
- 5+ years in product design leadership, specifically having shipped, scaled, and maintained a multi-platform design system in production across web and mobile codebases.
- Front-end architecture experience, with a deep understanding of how design tokens and components live within GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and package managers.
- Proven autonomy in executing technical governance frameworks, schema definitions, and token contracts without requiring external oversight.
- Proficiency with current AI tools
- Direct experience managing product design talent, with a track record of leading, mentoring, and scaling small-to-large software systems design teams.
- Deep competency in complex systems thinking, data schema architecture, workflow/IA design, and visual infrastructure design.
- Strong executive communication and the ability to connect platform investment to measurable business impact.
Pay Range: $188,000 - $230,000

Target engineering and product roles first
Shipt's sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical disciplines, reflecting its identity as a technology and software company. Roles in software engineering, data science, and product management are your strongest entry points for visa sponsorship consideration.
Understand which visa types Shipt supports
Shipt sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT, along with Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3. Knowing this mix helps you assess whether your current status or target visa aligns before investing time in applications.
Highlight specialty occupation credentials early
Because H-1B sponsorship requires demonstrating a specialty occupation, lead your resume and cover letter with your degree field and how it directly maps to the role. Shipt's technical hiring teams look for clear qualification alignment.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for verified Shipt openings
Searching broadly wastes time. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and find Shipt roles where visa support is confirmed, saving you from applying to positions that won't lead anywhere.
Factor in Green Card sponsorship for long-term planning
Shipt has a strong track record of supporting permanent residency through EB-2 and EB-3 pathways. If long-term U.S. residency is your goal, ask about Green Card timelines during the offer negotiation stage, not after you've started.
TN visa holders should confirm role eligibility before applying
Shipt sponsors TN visas, but TN eligibility is occupation-specific and limited to Canadian and Mexican nationals. Review the qualifying occupation list carefully and confirm your target role falls within an approved TN category before reaching out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Shipt sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Shipt sponsors H-1B visas. Sponsorship is most common for technical roles where the position qualifies as a specialty occupation, typically requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. If you're targeting Shipt on an H-1B, software engineering, data, and product roles are the most likely pathways. Coming into the process with clear degree-to-role alignment strengthens your petition significantly.
Which visa types does Shipt sponsor?
Shipt sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and permanent residency through the EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card categories. This breadth makes Shipt a viable sponsor across multiple stages of an international worker's career, from recent graduates on OPT to experienced professionals pursuing permanent residency.
Which departments or roles at Shipt are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
As a technology and software company, Shipt's sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical functions, primarily software engineering, data science, and product management. These roles most reliably meet the specialty occupation standard required for H-1B petitions and align with the degree requirements common to EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card filings.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Shipt?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find current Shipt openings where visa sponsorship is confirmed. Rather than scanning generic job boards and guessing whether sponsorship is available, Migrate Mate lets you filter by real sponsorship history so you can focus your energy on roles that are genuinely accessible to international candidates.
How do I approach the Shipt application process as an international candidate?
Be transparent about your visa status early, ideally in your cover letter or initial recruiter screen. Shipt has an established process for sponsored hires, so this is not unfamiliar territory for their recruiting team. Having your documentation in order, including any OPT EAD or prior approval notices, and being able to clearly articulate your work authorization timeline will help move the process forward without unnecessary delays.
