Today, nearly 200 people around the globe work on Speechify in a 100% distributed setting – Speechify has no office. These include frontend and backend engineers, AI research scientists, and others from Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, leading PhD programs like Stanford, high growth startups like Stripe, Vercel, Bolt, and many founders of their own companies.
- Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or related UI frameworks), C#, XAML, and — when needed — C++.
- Define and enforce best-practices for Windows desktop development across the codebase: code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability.
- Drive accessibility efforts: integrate and validate support for accessibility APIs (e.g. Microsoft UI Automation or other relevant Windows accessibility frameworks), ensure UI controls, focus management, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities.
- Collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and long-term roadmap for the Windows platform.
- Take ownership of full lifecycle of features: conception design implementation testing release maintenance. Ensure quality, reliability, and consistency across releases.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, or compatibility problems — and propose robust architectural or design solutions.
An ideal candidate should have
Required:
- 3+ in Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, XAML — and ideally additional experience with native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM).
- Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed code (.NET) and native code.
- Proven track record of designing, building, and shipping production-quality desktop applications, with an emphasis on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Strong experience with accessibility APIs on Windows (e.g. Microsoft UI Automation or similar), and a dedication to building accessible and inclusive software.
- Excellent software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading or asynchronous programming (where relevant).
- Experience leading technical design, mentoring other engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions.
- Strong communication skills; ability to articulate tradeoffs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive consensus.
- A user-centric mindset: focus on building polished, intuitive, and accessible experiences for end users.
Preferred / Bonus:
- Experience with writing automated tests for UI — unit tests, integration tests, UI automation tests; familiarity with relevant testing frameworks.
- Experience with performance optimization for desktop apps (memory usage, startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI support, responsiveness under load).
- Experience with localization/globalization, right-to-left UI support, internationalization, accessibility for multiple regions.
- Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop applications.
- Previous experience in shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop applications.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of feature areas or modules and drive them long-term, including maintenance, refactoring, and technical debt management.
What we offer
- A high-impact role: you will define architecture, shape the future of our Windows product, and directly influence what millions of users see and experience.
- A collaborative, flat-structure engineering culture — you are not just a coder, but a builder and a decision-maker.
- Opportunities to lead — mentor others, steer technical direction, and grow into broader technical leadership (e.g. Tech Lead, Architect).
- Flexibility, autonomy, and responsibility: you define how to solve problems, own features end-to-end, and contribute to long-term product vision.
- A purpose-driven mission: building software that's reliable, accessible, and user-centered — making a real difference for people.
The United States Based Salary range for this role is: 140,000-200,000 USD/Year + Bonus + Stock depending on experience

Align your portfolio with Speechify's stack
Speechify's engineering work centers on audio processing, AI/ML pipelines, and cross-platform mobile development. Highlight projects using relevant technologies before you apply. Specialty occupation approval for H-1B and EB-2 depends on demonstrating a direct connection between your degree and the role.
Target roles that match your current status
If you're on F-1 OPT, prioritize Software Engineer postings where your field of study directly maps to the job description. A clear degree-to-role match strengthens both your OPT authorization and any future H-1B petition Speechify files on your behalf.
Browse open Software Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Speechify posts Software Engineer openings across multiple specializations. Use Migrate Mate to filter active listings by visa type so you can identify which positions align with your work authorization before submitting an application.
Raise sponsorship early in the offer stage
Don't wait until the final offer call to discuss visa needs. Speechify's recruiting team needs lead time to engage immigration counsel, especially if PERM labor certification is required for EB-2 or EB-3 pathways. Bring it up once you reach the offer stage.
Understand TN eligibility if you're Canadian or Mexican
TN status covers Computer Systems Analysts and Engineers, and Speechify has sponsored it. If your role qualifies, TN can be processed at the border without a USCIS petition, which shortens the timeline significantly compared to H-1B cap-subject filings.
Prepare your credential documentation before interviews
For specialty occupation petitions, USCIS scrutinizes whether a four-year bachelor's degree in a specific field is standard for the role. Gather your transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your credential is from outside the U.S., and employment verification letters before you receive an offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Speechify sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Speechify has a history of supporting work authorization for Software Engineers, though H-1B visa sponsorship is subject to the annual USCIS lottery and requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Engineers in backend, ML, or mobile roles typically meet that threshold. If you're currently on OPT, Speechify can file an H-1B petition during the cap season on your behalf.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Speechify?
Applications go through Speechify's careers page. Before applying, review the job description closely to confirm your background maps to the technical stack. Migrate Mate lists open Software Engineer roles at Speechify filtered by visa sponsorship type, which helps you prioritize postings that align with your current authorization before going through the full application process.
Which visa types does Speechify commonly use for Software Engineers?
Speechify has sponsored F-1 OPT and CPT for students already in the U.S., TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles, and EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term hires. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree, and where you are in the immigration process.
What qualifications does Speechify expect for Software Engineer roles?
Most Software Engineer roles at Speechify require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, which is also the baseline USCIS uses to evaluate specialty occupation petitions. Beyond the degree, Speechify's postings typically emphasize experience with distributed systems, mobile development, or AI infrastructure depending on the team.
How do I plan my timeline if I need Speechify to sponsor my visa?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer must file an H-1B petition by April 1 for an October 1 start date. That means securing an offer and completing USCIS registration in the first quarter of the year. For Green Card sponsorship through PERM, the DOL labor certification process alone can take 12 months or more, so start that conversation at the offer stage.
