Align your degree to specialty occupation criteria
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the Construction Engineer role. A civil or structural engineering degree maps cleanly, but a general science degree may need supporting documentation showing how your coursework ties to construction engineering work.
Target Sundt's self-perform project divisions
Sundt self-performs a large share of its construction work, so Construction Engineer openings often appear in concrete, mechanical, and earthwork divisions. Filtering applications to these divisions increases your fit with roles where hands-on technical engineers are prioritized over generalist project managers.
Clarify your OPT or CPT status before applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility and E-Verify enrollment before your first interview. Sundt participates in E-Verify, and interviewers in construction hiring often ask about work authorization timelines earlier than in other industries.
Ask about LCA filing timing during the offer stage
Before accepting a Construction Engineer offer, confirm when Sundt intends to file the Labor Condition Application with DOL. Construction project assignments can shift quickly, and the LCA must reflect your actual worksite location, which affects filing timelines if you're rotating between job sites.
Use Migrate Mate to identify active Construction Engineer openings
Construction hiring at Sundt can move faster than corporate roles because project staffing is tied to bid cycles. Use Migrate Mate to track current Construction Engineer openings at Sundt that are open to visa sponsorship, so you're applying when headcount is actually approved.
Prepare for TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
Construction Engineers may qualify for TN status under the engineer category if you hold a Canadian or Mexican passport and a qualifying engineering degree. TN has no lottery and can be processed at the border or port of entry, making it a faster path than H-1B for eligible applicants.

Find Construction Engineer at Sundt Construction JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Sundt Construction sponsor H-1B visas for Construction Engineers?
Yes, Sundt Construction sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Engineer roles. The H-1B is the most common sponsorship path for engineers at construction firms because it supports multi-year employment and is transferable if you change roles within the company. Because H-1B is subject to the annual lottery, timing your application around the April registration window is critical.
How do I apply for Construction Engineer jobs at Sundt Construction?
Applications for Construction Engineer roles at Sundt go through their careers portal. Sundt hires for specific project assignments, so openings often reflect active bids or awarded contracts rather than evergreen postings. You can also find and filter current openings by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which tracks Sundt listings as they become available.
Which visa types does Sundt Construction commonly use for Construction Engineers?
Sundt sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visas for Construction Engineer roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent engineering graduates, with H-1B sponsorship following once a candidate is established. TN is a practical option for Canadian and Mexican citizens with engineering degrees, as it bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely.
What qualifications does Sundt Construction expect for Construction Engineer roles?
Sundt typically looks for a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering, along with field experience or internships on commercial, transportation, or infrastructure projects. For H-1B sponsorship to hold up under USCIS scrutiny, the degree must be in a directly related engineering field. Candidates with EIT certification or progress toward a PE license are viewed favorably in the hiring process.
How do I manage visa timelines when joining Sundt Construction as a Construction Engineer?
The biggest timing risk is the gap between an offer and your authorized start date. If you're transitioning from OPT to H-1B, your employment must bridge the cap-gap period properly to avoid a work authorization lapse. For H-1B new hires, the earliest possible start date is October 1 of the fiscal year following the lottery. Coordinating your offer acceptance and project assignment timing with Sundt's HR and immigration counsel early avoids project staffing conflicts.
