Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
UT Austin's H-1B petitions require your role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Frame your data contributor experience around a specific degree field, such as statistics, information science, or computer science, not general data work.
Research UT Austin's OFLC disclosure data early
DOL's OFLC disclosure database lists every LCA UT Austin has filed, including job titles and wage levels. Search for Data Contributor or related titles to understand how the university classifies and compensates this function before you apply.
Target departments with active data infrastructure needs
UT Austin's research institutes, the Texas Advanced Computing Center, and administrative analytics teams hire data contributors regularly. Applying to postings tied to funded research projects increases your chances of finding a role with sponsorship flexibility built in.
Clarify OPT and CPT eligibility before your start date
If you're transitioning from an F-1 visa, confirm whether the role qualifies for STEM OPT extension. UT Austin's international office processes these internally, so coordinate with both HR and your Designated School Official well before your current authorization expires.
Ask directly about H-1B timing during the offer stage
UT Austin files H-1B petitions through a central international office, not individual departments. When you receive an offer, ask the hiring team to connect you with that office immediately so you understand the cap-subject timeline and whether premium processing applies.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Data Contributor roles at UT Austin
Filtering by visa type and role function saves significant time when targeting a specific employer. Migrate Mate surfaces Data Contributor openings at UT Austin filtered by sponsorship history, so you can prioritize applications where the pathway is already established.
