Get Your Credentials Evaluated Before Applying

Target UT Austin's Health and Academic Units Separately

Find Nursing at The University of Texas at Austin JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does The University of Texas at Austin sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Yes, The University of Texas at Austin sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying nursing roles. As a large public university, UT Austin is classified as a cap-exempt employer, which means it can file H-1B petitions at any time of year without waiting for the annual lottery. This is a significant advantage for international nursing candidates who would otherwise face H-1B lottery uncertainty.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at The University of Texas at Austin?
Nursing positions at UT Austin are posted through the university's central HR portal. Because the university operates multiple hiring units, including the School of Nursing and Dell Medical School, search both portals to avoid missing openings. Make sure your application clearly documents your licensure status and work authorization needs. Migrate Mate can help you identify which active listings are open to visa sponsorship before you apply.
Which visa types does The University of Texas at Austin commonly use for Nursing roles?
UT Austin sponsors several visa types for nursing professionals. The H-1B is the most common pathway for specialty occupation roles. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and can be filed year-round. Canadian and Mexican nationals may use TN status if the job title qualifies under USMCA. For permanent pathways, UT Austin supports EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification.
What qualifications are expected for Nursing roles at The University of Texas at Austin?
Most nursing positions at UT Austin require an active Texas RN license or documented eligibility to obtain one, along with a relevant degree in nursing. Advanced practice roles typically require a graduate degree and specialty certification. Academic or research-focused nursing roles may also require prior university or teaching experience. Foreign-trained nurses should have their credentials evaluated for U.S. equivalency before applying, as HR will ask for this documentation early in the process.
How do I handle the timing between my visa filing and my start date at UT Austin?
UT Austin's cap-exempt H-1B status allows it to file petitions year-round with USCIS, so your start date isn't constrained to October 1 the way cap-subject H-1B cases are. Standard USCIS processing runs three to five months, but premium processing can reduce this to around 15 business days. Build at least four months of lead time between your offer acceptance and your intended start date to account for LCA certification with the DOL before the I-129 petition can be filed.
