UN Foundation’s global health advocacy team champions American investments in global health as a smart, effective, and cost-effective way to protect the health of people around the world while benefitting the health prosperity of Americans here at home. The global health advocacy team has three core brands: Shot@Life, which advocates for global immunization programs; United to Beat Malaria, which advocates for global malaria elimination; and HealthForUS, which advocates holistically for American engagement and investment in global health.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Communications Associate will work with the Communications Officer, Global Health Advocacy to develop, implement, and support the communications, digital, and marketing needs of the global health advocacy team. They will report directly to the team’s Communications Officer.
This position is based in Washington, DC. (Hybrid)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Brand & Strategy:
- Support the implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy that supports the team’s advocacy, brand, donor, and partner objectives
- Work closely with the Communications Officer to develop long-term communications strategies, including content development and dissemination, audience expansion, new platforms, search engine optimization, and more
- Serve as a lead steward of the global health advocacy brands – Shot@Life, United to Beat Malaria, and HealthForUS – ensuring consistent messaging across platforms and materials
Digital Communications & Social Media:
- Execute day-to-day management of global health advocacy social media channels, including content scheduling, posting, monitoring, and community engagement, in collaboration with the Communications Officer
- Support the development and dissemination of digital content and campaign collateral, including social media posts, impact stories, blogs, videos, graphics, and fact sheets, across global health advocacy brands
- Maintain and update global health advocacy digital platforms, including websites and landing pages, ensuring strong usability and alignment with campaign goals
- Contribute to audience growth and engagement efforts through digital analytics reporting, paid advertising support, email and text communications, and coordinated media and influencer outreach activities
Project Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with advocacy and program teams to develop communications resources, toolkits, and supporter education materials
- Coordinate with advocacy, development, and partnership teams to deliver aligned fundraising and partner-facing content
- Provide communications support for live and virtual events, including promotion, content capture, and real-time coverage
- Maintain and manage editorial calendars to ensure timely delivery of campaign content, observances, and digital initiative

Senior Associate, Communications and Digital Media, Global Health Advocacy is not a supervisory role.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION and/or EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field, or commensurate professional experience
- Three or more years of professional experience in communications and digital media, preferably in a media outlet, PR/creative agency, NGO, or similar environment
- Experience supporting organizational social media platforms in coordination with campaign communications and digital engagement strategies
- Demonstrated experience producing written communications materials, including press releases, op-eds, talking points, and editorial content for a brand, organization, or thought leader
- Proficiency with relevant communications and digital tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, email marketing platforms (e.g., EveryAction or Mailchimp), CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), and content management systems (e.g., WordPress)
- Experience developing multimedia content, including photography, videography, and video editing, strongly preferred
- Familiarity with global humanitarian issues, global health, and/or international development preferred
- Excellent writing, editing, and content development skills, with the ability to communicate technical or policy concepts to broad audiences
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across internal teams and external partners
- Initiative and creative problem-solving ability to contribute to innovative communications campaigns and digital initiatives
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of global health, international development, and the United Nations Foundation
