Credential your degree for U.S. academic standards
Many Teaching roles at UNH require credentials evaluated against U.S. academic equivalencies. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before you apply so hiring committees can assess your qualifications without delay.
Target departments with recurring international hires
UNH's STEM, engineering, and social science departments consistently recruit internationally for Teaching positions. Review faculty listings by department to identify where international hires are most concentrated, then tailor your application materials to those specific programs.
Understand how PERM affects your Teaching offer
Tenure-track Teaching roles at UNH may qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship via PERM. The DOL's PERM process requires the university to document that no qualified U.S. workers were available, so the job posting and recruitment period directly affect your green card timeline.

Find Teaching at University of New Hampshire JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of New Hampshire sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching roles?
Yes, University of New Hampshire sponsors H-1B visas for Teaching positions that qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Faculty and instructional roles typically meet this threshold. UNH's international services office coordinates the filing with USCIS, and the university generally covers required filing fees for sponsored positions.
Which visa types are commonly used for Teaching roles at University of New Hampshire?
H-1B is the most common work visa for Teaching roles at UNH, particularly for tenure-track and full-time instructional positions. J-1 Exchange Visitor visas are also widely used for visiting faculty and research scholars. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Teaching occupations, and OPT or CPT can bridge recent graduates into initial roles.
What qualifications are expected for Teaching positions at University of New Hampshire?
Most Teaching roles at UNH require a terminal degree in the relevant discipline, typically a Ph.D. or equivalent for tenure-track faculty positions. Instructional and lecturer roles may accept a master's degree plus demonstrated teaching experience. For visa sponsorship purposes, your credentials must directly align with the academic subject you'll be teaching, which USCIS scrutinizes during H-1B adjudication.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at University of New Hampshire?
Teaching positions at UNH are posted on the university's careers portal and on Migrate Mate, where you can filter by visa sponsorship eligibility. Applications typically require a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy statement, and reference contacts. For sponsored roles, the offer process involves UNH's international services office confirming your visa pathway before the official appointment is finalized.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Teaching role at UNH?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B sponsorship for a cap-subject position must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start, so UNH needs to extend an offer several months in advance. TN visas for eligible nationals can be processed at the border with same-day approval. J-1 sponsorship through UNH typically takes four to six weeks once the DS-2019 is issued.
