Verify Your Clinical Certifications Match State Requirements
Kentucky requires Care Assistants to hold a current Nurse Aide certification (CNA) on the state registry. Before applying, confirm your certification transfers or that UofL Health's onboarding process includes a pathway to obtain it.
Target UofL Health's High-Turnover Hospital Units
Care Assistant demand at UofL Health is highest in acute care, rehab, and long-term care units. Applying directly to postings that name a specific facility or unit signals familiarity with their care model and increases your fit as a candidate.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Active Openings by Visa Type
UofL Health posts Care Assistant roles across multiple facilities at once, and not all listings clarify sponsorship availability upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring roles so you're applying to positions where your visa category is already supported.
Prepare Work Authorization Documents Before Your Interview
UofL Health uses E-Verify for all new hires, so bring your I-94, valid visa stamp, and EAD or other work authorization to your interview. Delays in verifying employment eligibility can stall a conditional offer in healthcare settings.
Understand the PERM Timeline for Green Card Sponsorship
EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through UofL Health requires a PERM labor certification filed with DOL, which can take a year or more before USCIS sees the petition. Factor this into any long-term immigration planning when evaluating the role.

Does UofL Health sponsor H-1B visas for Care Assistants?
Yes, UofL Health sponsors H-1B visas for Care Assistants. Healthcare employers in the non-profit and hospital system category can qualify as H-1B cap-exempt petitioners in some cases, which may allow filing outside the annual lottery. Confirm cap-exempt eligibility with UofL Health's HR team during the offer stage, as this affects your filing timeline significantly.
How do I apply for Care Assistant jobs at UofL Health?
Applications go through UofL Health's careers portal, where postings are listed by facility and department. Create a profile, upload your resume, and attach your CNA certification and any current work authorization documents. Migrate Mate also aggregates verified Care Assistant openings at UofL Health filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it easier to identify roles actively open to sponsored candidates.
Which visa types does UofL Health commonly support for Care Assistant roles?
UofL Health supports H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Care Assistants, as well as employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare occupations. OPT and CPT are common for candidates in healthcare-adjacent degree programs completing clinical components as part of their curriculum.
What qualifications does UofL Health expect for Care Assistant roles?
Most Care Assistant positions at UofL Health require a current Kentucky CNA certification or the ability to obtain one within a defined onboarding period. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is typically required at hire. Prior acute care or long-term care experience is preferred for hospital unit roles, and some postings specify minimum patient care hours that align with clinical training programs.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when hired as a Care Assistant at UofL Health?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B sponsorship follows USCIS's April filing window with an October 1 start date, so plan for a six-month lead time from offer to authorization. TN status can often be obtained at the border in a single day for eligible nationals. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 typically takes one to two years before reaching USCIS adjudication.
