Get Your CNA Certification Before Applying
Kentucky requires Certified Nursing Assistant credentials through the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry before you can work in this role. Complete your state certification and CPR training in advance so your application isn't delayed waiting on credentials during the hiring process.
Target UofL Health's Direct Careers Portal
UofL Health posts Nursing Assistant openings directly on its careers site, often listing multiple openings across different facilities. Apply to postings that explicitly note visa sponsorship eligibility rather than assuming all listings support it.
Understand How TN Status Applies to This Role
Canadian and Mexican nationals should confirm with UofL Health's HR team whether the Nursing Assistant role qualifies under TN visa category requirements, as classification depends on how the position is defined and whether degree requirements are formally documented.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Before signing an offer, confirm in writing whether UofL Health will cover H-1B or PERM filing fees, since DOL regulations prohibit employers from passing certain immigration costs to workers. Healthcare employers sometimes have distinct policies for clinical support roles versus licensed clinicians.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsoring Employers
Search for Nursing Assistant roles at UofL Health using Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by verified visa sponsorship history. This saves time and helps you prioritize applications where sponsorship for your specific visa type is confirmed.
Time Your OPT or STEM Extension Around Hospital Hiring Cycles
UofL Health's clinical support hiring tends to ramp up ahead of fiscal year transitions and accreditation periods. If you're on F-1 OPT, apply with enough runway so your authorization remains valid through onboarding and the first payroll cycle.

Find Nursing Assistant at UofL Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does UofL Health sponsor H-1B visas for Nursing Assistants?
Yes, UofL Health has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for Nursing Assistant roles. As a large regional health system, it has the legal infrastructure to support employer-filed petitions. The H-1B requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, so confirm with UofL Health's HR or immigration team how the position is classified before relying on this pathway.
Which visa types are commonly used for Nursing Assistant roles at UofL Health?
UofL Health sponsors H-1B, EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Nursing Assistant positions. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates completing clinical programs. EB-3 is frequently used for permanent residence sponsorship in direct care roles. TN eligibility depends on how the role's requirements are formally documented by the employer.
How do I apply for Nursing Assistant jobs at UofL Health?
Apply through UofL Health's official careers portal, where you can filter by role type and facility. Listings occasionally specify visa sponsorship availability, but if that detail is absent, follow up directly with the recruiter after applying. You can also browse open Nursing Assistant positions at UofL Health on Migrate Mate, which surfaces verified sponsoring employers and active listings in one place.
What qualifications does UofL Health expect for Nursing Assistant candidates?
UofL Health typically requires active Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry certification, current CPR certification, and some hands-on clinical or patient care experience. Candidates coming from international programs should have credential equivalency documentation ready. Experience in acute care or hospital settings is preferred for roles attached to specific service lines such as surgical or critical care units.
How do I estimate the timeline from application to starting work on a sponsored visa at UofL Health?
Timeline depends on your visa type. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS takes roughly three to five months from application, so begin the process before your program ends. H-1B sponsorship follows an annual cap with an October 1 start date, meaning offers made in the spring may not result in employment until the following fiscal year. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship adds an additional multi-year process on top of initial work authorization.
