Verify Your Credentials Through CGFNS First
UofL Health requires Kentucky RN licensure before you can start, which means completing CGFNS credential evaluation and passing NCLEX ahead of any offer. Starting this process early prevents delays between offer acceptance and your actual start date.
Target Units With Chronic Staffing Pressure
ICU, med-surg, and emergency departments at health systems like UofL Health tend to carry the most open RN requisitions. Applying to units with persistent vacancies puts you in front of hiring managers who are more motivated to support a sponsored hire.
Understand How EB-3 Petitions Work for Nurses
Healthcare employers sponsoring RNs for permanent residence typically file through the EB-3 category, which requires a PERM labor certification through DOL before USCIS can adjudicate the immigrant petition. Retrogression in EB-3 for certain countries can add years to the timeline, so factor your nationality into your planning.
Ask About TN Status If You Hold Canadian or Mexican Citizenship
Registered Nurse is an explicitly listed TN profession, making TN status one of the fastest paths to U.S. work authorization at employers like UofL Health. Unlike H-1B, there is no annual cap or lottery, and approval can happen at the port of entry.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Before signing an offer, confirm whether UofL Health will cover both the H-1B petition and any subsequent Green Card filings. Some health systems sponsor temporary status but require separate arrangements for permanent residence, and knowing this upfront shapes your long-term planning.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsoring Employers
Finding RN roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed rather than implied saves significant time. Migrate Mate surfaces UofL Health and similar health systems that have actively sponsored nurses, so you can focus applications on employers with a documented sponsorship history.

Find Registered Nurse at UofL Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does UofL Health sponsor H-1B visas for Registered Nurses?
Yes, UofL Health sponsors H-1B visas for Registered Nurses. H-1B requires a qualifying specialty occupation, and RN roles supported by a relevant nursing degree generally meet that standard. Because H-1B is subject to an annual lottery, many health systems also pursue EB-3 permanent residence sponsorship in parallel to reduce dependence on cap-subject filings.
How do I apply for Registered Nurse jobs at UofL Health?
You can browse and apply for Registered Nurse openings at UofL Health directly through their careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for UofL Health RN roles where visa sponsorship has been confirmed. When applying, tailor your application to the unit type, include your NCLEX status prominently, and note your visa situation early so recruiters can route your file appropriately.
Which visa types does UofL Health commonly use for Registered Nurses?
UofL Health sponsors Registered Nurses through H-1B for temporary work authorization, TN status for Canadian and Mexican citizens (since RN is a listed TN profession), F-1 OPT for recent nursing graduates from U.S. programs, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant petitions for permanent residence. The right pathway depends on your citizenship, education, and how quickly you need work authorization.
What qualifications does UofL Health expect for sponsored Registered Nurse roles?
UofL Health typically requires active Kentucky RN licensure, which means passing NCLEX and completing any required credential evaluation through CGFNS if you trained outside the United States. Most postings also expect at least one year of acute care experience, though new graduate roles in specific units do exist. Specialty certifications such as CCRN or CEN strengthen applications for ICU and emergency positions.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Registered Nurse at UofL Health?
Timeline depends heavily on visa type. TN status for Canadian citizens can be granted same-day at the border. H-1B standard processing runs three to five months after USCIS receives the petition, with premium processing available to cut that to 15 business days. EB-3 permanent residence timelines vary significantly by nationality due to PERM labor certification at DOL, followed by USCIS adjudication, and potential wait periods caused by visa retrogression.
