Get Your NCLEX and State Licensure Ready First
Maimonides requires active New York RN licensure before any sponsorship conversation begins. Sitting for the NCLEX early and starting the New York State Education Department endorsement process puts you in a position to move quickly when an offer comes.
Target Maimonides Units With Chronic Staffing Pressure
Critical care, medical-surgical, and telemetry units at large Brooklyn hospitals like Maimonides tend to have the most persistent openings. Applying directly to those departments increases your chances of reaching a hiring manager willing to sponsor.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Nursing Roles
Searching by role and sponsorship type helps you identify active Registered Nurse positions at Maimonides that explicitly support visa candidates. Migrate Mate lets you filter for H-1B and employment-based sponsorship so you're not guessing which postings are relevant.
Clarify Sponsorship Timing Before Accepting an Offer
Ask HR whether Maimonides files H-1B petitions in the April cap season or uses cap-exempt pathways through affiliated research or nonprofit designations. Knowing the timeline upfront prevents surprises after you've accepted a role.
Prepare a Credential Evaluation for Foreign Nursing Degrees
If your nursing degree is from outside the United States, you'll need a credential evaluation from a CGFNS-recognized body before USCIS or the New York State Education Department will accept your qualifications. Start this process months before applying.
Understand How PERM Affects Your Green Card Timeline
EB-3 sponsorship for nurses typically requires a DOL PERM labor certification, which can take a year or more before USCIS even begins adjudicating the I-140 petition. Factor this into your planning if you're currently on OPT or a time-limited status.

Find Registered Nurse at Maimonides Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Maimonides Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Registered Nurses?
Yes, Maimonides Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for Registered Nurses. As a large nonprofit hospital, Maimonides qualifies as a cap-exempt employer in some circumstances through affiliations with medical education programs, which can allow filing outside the standard April lottery window. Confirm cap-exempt eligibility directly with their HR or immigration team during the offer stage.
Which visa types are commonly used for Registered Nurse roles at Maimonides Medical Center?
Maimonides sponsors H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nurses who meet NAFTA-listed occupation criteria), F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories. For most internationally trained nurses, the EB-3 pathway paired with an H-1B as a bridge visa is the most common long-term route.
What qualifications and experience does Maimonides Medical Center expect for Registered Nurse roles?
Maimonides expects candidates to hold an active New York State RN license, an Associate Degree in Nursing at minimum (BSN strongly preferred), and BLS certification. For specialty units such as critical care or emergency, relevant clinical experience in that setting is typically required. Foreign-trained nurses must also have a completed CGFNS credential evaluation before the credentialing process can proceed.
How do I apply for Registered Nurse jobs at Maimonides Medical Center?
You can browse current Registered Nurse openings at Maimonides and filter specifically for visa-sponsored positions through Migrate Mate. When you apply, indicate your visa status and sponsorship need clearly in your application. Following up with the nurse recruiter directly after submitting can help your file move faster, especially for high-demand units.
How do I plan my timeline if I need Maimonides to sponsor my Green Card?
EB-3 sponsorship requires Maimonides to complete a DOL PERM labor certification before filing your I-140 with USCIS. The full process from PERM filing to I-140 approval can take two or more years, not including priority date wait times. Starting conversations with HR about Green Card sponsorship as early as your first year of employment gives you the best chance of maintaining continuous work authorization throughout.
