Tips for Finding Healthcare Assistant Jobs at UofL Health
Align your credentials before applying
Healthcare Assistant positions at UofL Health typically require state-recognized certifications like CNA or patient care technician credentials. Confirm your certification is valid in Kentucky and translated into English before submitting any application materials.
Target UofL Health's direct careers portal
UofL Health posts Healthcare Assistant openings across multiple facilities including University Hospital and Jewish Hospital. Applying directly through their careers portal signals serious intent and puts your application in front of in-house HR teams who manage sponsorship decisions.
Clarify sponsorship eligibility during the interview
Not every hiring manager at a large health system knows which visa types their HR team actively files for Healthcare Assistants. Ask specifically whether the role is eligible for H-1B or TN sponsorship rather than waiting until after an offer is extended.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Healthcare Assistant openings at UofL Health that accept sponsored candidates can be hard to identify from job postings alone. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for UofL Health roles by visa type so you only spend time on positions that match your situation.
Understand the TN pathway for clinical support roles
Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare support occupations can pursue TN status without a lottery or USCIS petition, making it faster than H-1B. Confirm with UofL Health's HR that your Healthcare Assistant role meets DOL's TN occupation definitions before relying on this path.
Time OPT applications around UofL Health's hiring cycles
UofL Health tends to hire Healthcare Assistants on a rolling basis as patient volume shifts. If you're on F-1 OPT, file your EAD application with USCIS at least 90 days before your program end date to avoid a gap that would interrupt your start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does UofL Health sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Yes, UofL Health sponsors H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistant roles. As a large nonprofit health system, UofL Health qualifies as a cap-exempt employer through its affiliation with the University of Louisville, which means H-1B petitions can be filed at any time of year without waiting for the annual lottery. This is a significant advantage for candidates who missed the cap-subject selection period.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at UofL Health?
Apply directly through UofL Health's careers portal at uoflhealth.org. Search for Healthcare Assistant or Patient Care Technician roles and filter by facility or department. In your application, include any relevant certifications such as a CNA license valid in Kentucky. If visa sponsorship is a requirement for you, flag that in your cover letter so HR can route your application appropriately from the start.
Which visa types are commonly used for Healthcare Assistant roles at UofL Health?
UofL Health sponsors H-1B, TN visa, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Healthcare Assistants. F-1 OPT and CPT are also accepted, making UofL Health accessible at multiple career stages. EB-3 is the most common Green Card route for healthcare support roles because it covers skilled and semi-skilled positions without requiring a graduate degree.
What qualifications does UofL Health expect for Healthcare Assistant positions?
Most Healthcare Assistant roles at UofL Health require a high school diploma or equivalent along with a current CNA certification or Patient Care Technician credential recognized in Kentucky. Some roles in specialty units require BLS certification through the American Heart Association. Prior clinical experience in an acute care or hospital setting strengthens your application, particularly for roles in ICU or surgical support teams.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Healthcare Assistant at UofL Health?
For H-1B sponsorship, standard USCIS processing takes three to five months after UofL Health files the I-129 petition. Because UofL Health is cap-exempt, there is no lottery wait. TN status for eligible Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border within a single day.
