Tips for Finding Healthcare Jobs at UofL Health
Verify Your Credentials Meet Kentucky Licensure Requirements
Healthcare roles at UofL Health require state licensure in Kentucky before you can start. If your credentials were earned abroad, initiate the foreign credential evaluation early through the relevant licensing board so delays don't stall your offer timeline.
Target Roles With Defined Degree Requirements
H-1B eligibility hinges on the position qualifying as a specialty occupation. Clinical and allied health roles tied to specific degree fields, like nursing informatics or clinical pharmacy, are stronger fits than generalist administrative positions that accept any bachelor's degree.
Ask HR Directly About PERM Labor Certification
If your goal is a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, ask UofL Health's HR team whether they initiate PERM for your role type. Permanent resident sponsorship is more common for hard-to-fill clinical specialties than for general support roles.
Browse Open Healthcare Roles on Migrate Mate
Filter Healthcare positions at UofL Health by visa type on Migrate Mate to see which roles align with your sponsorship eligibility. This saves time spent applying to positions where sponsorship isn't on the table.
Account for Cap-Subject H-1B Filing Windows
UofL Health is a nonprofit health system, and some of its entities may qualify as cap-exempt under USCIS rules. Confirm with HR whether your specific role and employing entity qualify, because cap-exempt status means you can file outside the April lottery window.
Line Up Your Employment Verification Documents Early
UofL Health participates in E-Verify, so have your work authorization documents ready before your start date. If you're transitioning from OPT or CPT, coordinate your I-20 end date and EAD carefully with your hiring manager to avoid any gap in authorized employment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does UofL Health sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcares?
Yes, UofL Health sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Healthcare roles. Eligibility depends on the position meeting USCIS specialty occupation requirements, meaning the job must typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Clinical and technically specialized roles tend to meet this standard more readily than generalist positions.
How do I apply for Healthcare jobs at UofL Health?
You can search and apply for Healthcare positions directly through UofL Health's careers portal. For a filtered view showing roles where visa sponsorship is available, browse UofL Health's open Healthcare listings on Migrate Mate. When applying, be upfront about your visa status in the application so HR can route your file to the right team.
Which visa types does UofL Health commonly sponsor for Healthcare roles?
UofL Health sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation roles and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students in clinical training programs. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Healthcare occupations listed under USMCA. For longer-term pathways, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM is available for select clinical positions.
What qualifications does UofL Health expect for Healthcare roles?
Requirements vary by role, but most clinical positions require U.S.-recognized licensure or certification for the relevant state of Kentucky, along with a degree in a directly related field. Allied health and specialized clinical roles often require prior hands-on experience. Internationally trained applicants should have their credentials evaluated and any required licensing examinations completed before applying.
How do I manage timing if I'm on OPT or waiting for an H-1B?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your employment authorization is tied to your EAD expiration date. For cap-subject H-1B petitions, USCIS has a filing window that opens in April with an October 1 start date, so coordinate your offer timing accordingly. If UofL Health's employing entity qualifies as cap-exempt, filings can happen year-round, which removes the lottery constraint entirely.
