Verify Your Kentucky RN Licensure Early
UofL Health requires active Kentucky RN licensure before any offer moves forward. If you hold a license from another state, initiate the endorsement process through the Kentucky Board of Nursing well before applying, as processing can take several weeks.
Target School-Based Openings Within UofL Health
UofL Health fills School Nurse roles across school district partnerships in the Louisville metro area. Search their careers portal specifically for community and school health postings rather than inpatient nursing, since these positions fall under a distinct hiring pipeline with different credentialing timelines.
Align Your Application With the Academic Calendar
School Nurse positions at UofL Health typically ramp up hiring ahead of the fall academic year. Submitting your application between February and April puts you in front of hiring managers before peak competition and gives enough lead time for sponsorship paperwork if an H-1B or TN offer is extended.
Confirm TN Eligibility if You Hold Canadian or Mexican Citizenship
The TN visa covers Registered Nurses under USMCA, making it a faster path than H-1B for qualifying candidates. If UofL Health extends an offer, your employer can support same-day TN admission at a port of entry, bypassing USCIS petition timelines entirely.
Use Migrate Mate to Identify Active School Nurse Postings
UofL Health posts School Nurse openings across multiple systems, making it easy to miss roles that are open to sponsored candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for UofL Health positions that align with your visa type before applying through their careers portal.
Clarify the PERM Timeline Before Accepting a Green Card Offer
If UofL Health offers EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship for a School Nurse role, the PERM labor certification process with DOL typically takes 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition can be filed. Factor this into your employment start date and any current visa status expiration.

Find School Nurse at UofL Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does UofL Health sponsor H-1B visas for School Nurses?
Yes, UofL Health sponsors H-1B visas for School Nurse roles. As a large regional health system, they have established relationships with immigration counsel to support the petition process. Because H-1B sponsorship requires an approved Labor Condition Application through DOL before USCIS adjudicates the petition, the process typically begins several months before your intended start date. Confirm sponsorship intent with the recruiter before advancing through the interview stages.
How do I apply for School Nurse jobs at UofL Health?
Applications go through UofL Health's official careers portal at uoflhealth.org/careers. Search for School Nurse or community health nursing postings and apply directly. You can also use Migrate Mate to surface UofL Health School Nurse openings that are open to visa-sponsored candidates, which helps you prioritize roles before applying through the official portal. Have your RN license number, resume, and any certification documentation ready.
Which visa types does UofL Health commonly use for School Nurse roles?
UofL Health sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for nursing roles. TN is often the most efficient path for Canadian and Mexican citizens since it requires no USCIS petition. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for international students completing nursing programs. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship involves PERM labor certification through DOL and longer timelines.
What qualifications does UofL Health expect for School Nurse candidates?
UofL Health expects active Kentucky RN licensure, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing for most school-based roles, and ideally experience in pediatric or community health settings. Certifications such as Certified School Nurse or CPR instructor credentials strengthen your application. International candidates should confirm their degree credentials meet Kentucky Board of Nursing requirements, as foreign nursing degrees may require a credential evaluation before licensure is granted.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a School Nurse offer at UofL Health?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN sponsorship for Canadian or Mexican citizens can be processed at a port of entry on the day of travel. H-1B petitions filed under standard processing take three to five months with USCIS, while premium processing reduces adjudication to 15 business days for an additional fee. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card paths involving PERM labor certification through DOL typically run 18 months or more before an immigrant visa becomes available.
