Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding School Nurse Jobs at University of Texas Medical Branch Jobs
Verify Your RN License Before Applying
Texas requires a state RN license through the Texas Board of Nursing before UTMB can begin any visa filing. Start the endorsement or NCLEX process early so your license is active when an offer comes.
Target UTMB's Academic Health System Directly
UTMB operates hospitals, clinics, and academic programs under one system. School Nurse openings tied to its educational campuses often appear separately from clinical nursing roles, so filter job searches by department or campus type to find the right postings.
Understand How TN Status Fits This Role
Canadian and Mexican nurses can pursue TN status if the School Nurse position is classified under a qualifying nursing category. Confirm with UTMB's HR that the specific role description aligns with DOL's TN nurse criteria before assuming eligibility.
Ask About H-1B Filing Timelines at Offer Stage
UTMB's H-1B filings are subject to the USCIS annual cap and April lottery. Ask the hiring team whether they file under cap-exempt status through their academic or research affiliation, as university medical centers sometimes qualify for exemptions that skip the lottery entirely.
Browse Verified UTMB Openings Through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter School Nurse roles at UTMB by visa type. This surfaces active sponsoring positions so you're not manually sorting through postings that don't support your immigration status.
Prepare Documentation for a Specialty Occupation Argument
H-1B approval for School Nurse roles depends on demonstrating the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Gather transcripts, nursing credentials, and a detailed job description before USCIS filing begins.

Find School Nurse at University of Texas Medical Branch JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Texas Medical Branch sponsor H-1B visas for School Nurses?
Yes, UTMB has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for nursing roles, including School Nurses. As part of a major academic medical institution, UTMB may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filing in some cases, which avoids the annual lottery. Confirm the specific role's classification with their HR or immigration team during the offer process.
How do I apply for School Nurse jobs at University of Texas Medical Branch?
Applications go through UTMB's official careers portal. Search by job category or department to isolate School Nurse postings connected to its academic campuses rather than its hospital system. You can also browse verified UTMB School Nurse openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which helps confirm sponsorship availability before you invest time applying.
Which visa types are commonly used for School Nurse roles at University of Texas Medical Branch?
H-1B is the most common pathway for international School Nurses at UTMB. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican citizens if the role meets DOL's nursing classification criteria. F-1 OPT and CPT are options for students completing nursing programs, though School Nurse positions typically require full licensure before hire.
What qualifications does University of Texas Medical Branch expect for School Nurse positions?
UTMB expects a current Texas RN license, typically obtained through the Texas Board of Nursing. Most School Nurse roles require a bachelor's degree in nursing and experience in pediatric, community, or student health settings. Some positions may require or prefer a school nurse certification. Your degree and license both need to be in order before UTMB can proceed with any visa filing.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a School Nurse role at UTMB?
For H-1B, standard USCIS processing runs several months, though premium processing can reduce the adjudication window to around 15 business days for an additional fee. TN status for Canadians can often be obtained at the border on the same day with the right documentation. Factor in UTMB's internal HR and legal review time on top of any government processing window.
