Certify biomedical credentials before applying
CBET or HTM certification signals to UofL Health hiring managers that you meet the clinical equipment standards required for healthcare service tech roles. Uncertified candidates often stall at the offer stage when sponsorship conversations begin.
Target postings tied to specific clinical departments
UofL Health service tech openings vary by department, from radiology equipment to HVAC and facilities. Applying to a role aligned with your specific technical background, rather than any open posting, improves your odds of reaching the sponsorship conversation.
Clarify visa type eligibility before accepting an offer
UofL Health sponsors multiple visa categories for service tech roles. Confirm with HR which pathway applies to your situation before signing, since TN, H-1B, and OPT each have different employer filing obligations and timelines under USCIS rules.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by sponsorship type
Not every UofL Health service tech posting explicitly lists visa support in the job description. Use Migrate Mate to filter current openings by the visa categories UofL Health actively files, so you apply only to roles where sponsorship is a realistic outcome.
Prepare documentation showing hands-on equipment experience
UofL Health service tech roles require demonstrable technical experience with clinical or facilities systems. Gather service records, employer letters, or training certificates before your interview, since this documentation also supports your H-1B specialty occupation or PERM filing later.

Find Service Tech at UofL Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does UofL Health sponsor H-1B visas for Service Techs?
Yes, UofL Health sponsors H-1B visas for Service Tech roles. As a large regional health system, UofL Health files H-1B petitions through the standard USCIS process, including the annual April lottery for cap-subject candidates. If you're already on OPT or another employer-sponsored H-1B, a cap-exempt transfer may be possible depending on the role's classification.
How do I apply for Service Tech jobs at UofL Health?
Applications go through UofL Health's careers portal at uoflhealth.org. Search for Service Tech or related titles such as Biomedical Equipment Technician or Facilities Technician. Tailor your resume to highlight specific systems or equipment you've maintained. Migrate Mate also aggregates UofL Health service tech openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which lets you confirm a role is sponsorship-eligible before applying.
Which visa types does UofL Health commonly use for Service Tech roles?
UofL Health sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas for service tech positions. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical occupations. OPT and CPT are common for candidates completing U.S. degree programs in engineering or biomedical technology. EB-2 and EB-3 are the primary Green Card pathways for longer-term employment.
What qualifications does UofL Health expect for sponsored Service Tech positions?
Most service tech roles at UofL Health require an associate's or bachelor's degree in biomedical technology, electrical engineering, or a related technical field, combined with hands-on experience servicing clinical or facilities equipment. Certifications such as CBET or relevant manufacturer training strengthen your application. Roles supporting specialized clinical equipment often require prior hospital or healthcare environment experience to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation standards.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for a UofL Health Service Tech role?
Timeline depends on the visa type. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS takes up to 90 days, so apply early. H-1B cap cases follow the April lottery with an October 1 start date, giving roughly six months from selection to employment. TN status for Canadians can be obtained at the border on the same day. EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, including DOL PERM, typically takes two years or more.
