Align your credentials with Duke's requirements
Duke's Service Tech roles often require documented certifications like EPA 608 or trade licenses alongside your degree. Gather certified copies before applying so your qualifications are ready when HR initiates the sponsorship conversation.
Target Duke's facilities and medical divisions
Duke operates both a major university campus and a large health system, each hiring Service Techs with distinct equipment needs. Identifying which division matches your technical background narrows your search and surfaces the most relevant open roles.
Ask about departmental hiring timelines during interviews
Duke's large institutional structure means sponsorship timelines vary by department and fiscal quarter. Asking hiring managers directly about their typical onboarding calendar helps you plan around USCIS processing windows and any premium processing decisions.
Confirm your role meets USCIS specialty occupation criteria
For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a specific field. For Service Tech roles, make sure Duke's job description explicitly ties the position to a technical discipline, not general maintenance.
Browse open roles using Migrate Mate
Service Tech openings at Duke that include visa sponsorship aren't always easy to filter on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to search Duke's current Service Tech listings specifically verified for sponsorship eligibility, saving time in your application process.

Find Service Tech at Duke University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Duke University sponsor H-1B visas for Service Techs?
Yes, Duke University sponsors H-1B visas for Service Tech roles where the position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS criteria. The role needs to require a specific bachelor's degree or equivalent. Duke's size as an institution means it has established processes for managing H-1B filings, but individual departments vary in how frequently they pursue this pathway for technical roles.
How do I apply for Service Tech jobs at Duke University?
Applications go through Duke's official careers portal at careers.duke.edu, where roles are posted by department and job family. Filter by technical or facilities-related categories to surface Service Tech openings. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Duke's current Service Tech positions filtered for visa sponsorship, which makes it easier to identify roles where international candidates are actively considered.
Which visa types does Duke University commonly use for Service Tech roles?
Duke sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation roles and E-3 visas for Australian citizens, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. For longer-term pathways, Duke also files PERM labor certifications supporting EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions. The right category depends on your nationality, degree field, and how the specific Service Tech role is classified by Duke's HR and legal teams.
What qualifications does Duke University expect for Service Tech candidates?
Duke's Service Tech roles typically require a combination of relevant trade certifications, technical degrees, or documented hands-on experience in areas like HVAC, electrical systems, biomedical equipment, or IT infrastructure depending on the division. Roles tied to Duke's health system often carry additional compliance or safety training requirements. Reviewing the specific job description closely is the most reliable way to confirm what each opening requires.
How do I manage my work authorization timeline when targeting Duke University?
If you're on OPT, USCIS requires your employer to file an H-1B petition before your OPT expires, with a 60-day grace period if employment ends early. Duke's HR team initiates the filing after a signed offer, so build in at least three to four months before your status expires when timing your applications. Communicating your visa deadline clearly during the offer stage helps Duke's immigration counsel plan accordingly.
