Tailor your resume to VAST Data's stack
VAST Data's engineering work centers on distributed systems, high-throughput pipelines, and AI-adjacent infrastructure. Highlight hands-on experience with tools like Kafka, Spark, or object storage at scale rather than general-purpose data work.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline early
VAST Data sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, so confirm your remaining authorization window before applying. If you're within six months of your OPT end date, be upfront so the team can assess H-1B timing against your start date.
Find open Data Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Search for Data Engineer openings at VAST Data on Migrate Mate, which filters for employers with confirmed sponsorship history. It saves you from applying to roles where sponsorship is uncertain or excluded from the listing.
Ask about cap-exempt filing paths at interview
If VAST Data partners with qualifying research institutions or operates cap-exempt entities, H-1B petitions filed through those channels bypass the annual lottery. Raise this during the offer stage to understand whether a cap-exempt path applies to your role.
Prepare your educational credentials for specialty occupation review
USCIS evaluates whether a Data Engineer role qualifies as a specialty occupation under H-1B rules. A degree in computer science, data science, or a related technical field strengthens your petition, especially if your prior coursework aligns with the specific responsibilities in the job description.
Confirm Labor Condition Application details before signing
Your employer files an LCA with the DOL before submitting the H-1B petition. Review the prevailing wage level and worksite location listed on the LCA carefully, since inaccuracies can delay USCIS adjudication or require an amended petition after filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does VAST Data sponsor H-1B visas for Data Engineers?
Yes, VAST Data sponsors H-1B visas for Data Engineer roles. The process follows the standard USCIS H-1B cap pathway, which includes an annual lottery held in March. If you're already on a cap-exempt status or your role qualifies for a cap-exempt filing, you may be able to bypass the lottery entirely. Confirm sponsorship availability directly with the hiring team during the offer stage.
Which visa types are commonly used for Data Engineer roles at VAST Data?
VAST Data sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Data Engineer positions. F-1 OPT and CPT are typically used by recent graduates already in the U.S., while the H-1B is the standard long-term work visa for this role. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical occupations may also be eligible for TN status, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
How do I apply for Data Engineer jobs at VAST Data?
Browse current Data Engineer openings at VAST Data through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles from employers with confirmed sponsorship track records. When applying, align your resume to VAST Data's infrastructure and AI data platform focus. After submitting, expect a technical screen covering distributed systems, data pipeline design, and storage concepts before progressing to team interviews.
What qualifications does VAST Data expect from Data Engineer candidates?
VAST Data typically looks for strong fundamentals in distributed systems, large-scale data pipelines, and cloud-native storage architectures. A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data engineering, or a closely related field is standard. Practical experience with tools like Python, SQL, and stream-processing frameworks carries significant weight, particularly if you've worked on infrastructure supporting machine learning or AI workloads.
How do I navigate the H-1B timeline if I'm targeting a Data Engineer role at VAST Data?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March each year, with a lottery draw shortly after. If selected, your employer files the full petition by June 30, and the visa takes effect October 1. To hit that window, start conversations with VAST Data's recruiting team by January or February at the latest. If you're on OPT, your cap-gap protection may bridge any gap between your OPT expiration and the October start date.
