Overview
Company Overview
Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With approximately 100 million customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop innovating to make that possible.
Team Overview
The TurboTax team is evolving how we understand, build, and scale new sources of growth. We are developing deeper visibility into emerging customer needs, acquisition opportunities, engagement models, and cross product experiences.
As part of this transformation, we are looking for a Staff Data Scientist to help shape the strategy and measurement of TurboTax’s next generation of growth capabilities.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in zero-to-one environments at the intersection of data, experimentation, storytelling, and business leadership. You will help teams evaluate nascent opportunities, identify the strongest signals of customer and business value, and translate early learnings into clear strategic direction.
Role Overview
As a Staff Data Scientist in Emerging Growth Strategy & Intelligence, you will lead the development of analytical frameworks and insights for new acquisition, engagement, and customer-growth initiatives.
You will partner with leaders across Product, Marketing, Expert Services, and Operations to assess emerging opportunities, shape experimentation strategies, and determine which new capabilities should be refined, scaled, or deprioritized.
The portfolio may include new customer acquisition models, year-round engagement experiences, appointment and consultation offerings, retention initiatives, and cross-product opportunities. Because many of these capabilities are newly established, you will help define how success is measured rather than applying existing performance frameworks.
You will combine rigorous analysis with strong business judgment to bring clarity to ambiguous questions, create compelling performance narratives, and help leadership make confident investment decisions.
Responsibilities
Emerging Growth Strategy
Partner with business and functional leaders to identify, evaluate, and prioritize new acquisition, engagement, and customer-growth opportunities. Translate customer behavior, market signals, and business performance into strategic recommendations.
Zero-to-One Measurement
Develop measurement strategies for nascent products, programs, and business models where established benchmarks and metrics may not yet exist. Define leading indicators, learning milestones, success criteria, and pathways to scale.
Experimentation and Learning Agendas
Shape analytical and experimentation roadmaps for emerging initiatives. Help teams move from broad hypotheses to measurable tests, interpret results in context, and determine the next best action.
Customer Lifecycle Intelligence
Build a deeper understanding of how customers engage with TurboTax before, during, and after tax season. Identify opportunities to strengthen acquisition, early commitment, year-round engagement, retention, and long-term customer value.
Executive-Facing Visualization and Storytelling
Develop compelling visualizations, dashboards, and presentations that enable leadership to quickly understand performance, tradeoffs, and emerging opportunities. Bring simplicity and clarity to complex or incomplete analytical narratives.
Scalable Performance Frameworks
Create analytical frameworks that connect early customer signals to longer-term business outcomes. Establish consistent metrics, definitions, and decision criteria as new initiatives mature.
Cross-Functional Influence
Serve as a trusted data science partner to senior leaders across Marketing, Product, Expert Services, and Operations. Facilitate alignment through data and create a shared understanding of hypotheses, performance drivers, risks, and opportunities.
Growth Portfolio Intelligence
Develop integrated views of the emerging-growth portfolio to help leaders understand where momentum is building, where additional learning is required, and where resources may generate the greatest impact.
Data-Driven Operating Rhythm
Support business reviews, investment decisions, and planning cycles with analytical views that reveal progress, key learnings, customer response, and the drivers of growth.
Thought Leadership and Enablement
Champion best practices in experimentation, measurement, visualization, and decision science. Mentor other data scientists and analysts and contribute to a culture of rigorous, data-informed innovation.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, business intelligence, or a related field, ideally within consumer technology, financial technology, marketplaces, or SaaS environments.

- Demonstrated ability to define success metrics and learning frameworks for initiatives without established benchmarks.
- Strong business acumen across customer acquisition, engagement, retention, product strategy, and operations.
- Expertise in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar platforms.
- Advanced SQL proficiency and experience using Python or R for analysis, modeling, and automation.
- Exceptional storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling business narratives from complex or incomplete data.

Align your portfolio to Intuit's data stack
Intuit's Data Engineer roles consistently emphasize cloud-native pipelines, Spark, and SQL at scale across its QuickBooks and TurboTax platforms. Showcasing hands-on experience with those specific tools in your resume and GitHub portfolio signals immediate fit before the first screen.
Target teams with active LCA filings
Search DOL's public LCA disclosure data to identify which Intuit business units file most frequently for Data Engineer roles. Prioritizing those teams in your applications means you're targeting hiring managers who already understand the sponsorship process firsthand.
Confirm specialty occupation framing early
H-1B approval for Data Engineer roles depends on USCIS classifying the position as a specialty occupation requiring a specific degree field. Before your offer stage, confirm with Intuit's recruiting team that the job description explicitly ties to a qualifying degree, such as computer science or information systems.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open roles
Data Engineer openings at large technology employers like Intuit fill quickly and aren't always flagged as visa-friendly on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Intuit Data Engineer roles where sponsorship has been confirmed, so you're applying to verified opportunities.
Understand your OPT and grace period timing
If you're on F-1 OPT, your 60-day grace period after employment ends is firm. Coordinate your Intuit start date carefully so there's no gap between your current authorization expiring and your new employment beginning, especially if an H-1B cap filing is involved.
Prepare for PERM before your H-1B clock runs
Intuit sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for Data Engineers, but PERM labor certification can take 18 months or more. Start that conversation with your manager and HR well before you hit your fifth year on H-1B status so your I-140 is filed before priority date pressure builds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Intuit sponsor H-1B visas for Data Engineers?
Yes, Intuit sponsors H-1B visas for Data Engineer roles. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery for new applicants and also files cap-exempt petitions for eligible candidates. Because Data Engineer is classified as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines, it qualifies well for H-1B sponsorship when the job description ties clearly to a relevant degree field like computer science or data engineering.
How do I apply for Data Engineer jobs at Intuit?
Applications go through Intuit's careers portal, where Data Engineer roles are listed by product team and location. Tailoring your resume to Intuit's known data stack, including cloud platforms and distributed processing frameworks, strengthens your application. You can also browse verified sponsorship-eligible Data Engineer openings at Intuit through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Which visa types does Intuit commonly use for Data Engineers?
Intuit sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas for Data Engineer roles, along with EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for permanent residence. Australian citizens on E-3 visas and Canadian or Mexican nationals on TN visa status often find these pathways faster to obtain than H-1B, since neither involves a lottery or annual cap pressure.
What qualifications does Intuit expect for Data Engineer roles?
Intuit's Data Engineer positions typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field. Beyond the degree, strong candidates demonstrate experience building and maintaining production-grade data pipelines, proficiency with SQL and distributed processing frameworks like Spark, and familiarity with cloud infrastructure. Roles supporting QuickBooks or TurboTax often also expect experience working with high-volume transactional data.
How do I time my application if I need H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B cap filings open in March for an October 1 start date, so your Intuit offer needs to be in place before late February to meet that window. If you're on F-1 OPT, your current work authorization can bridge the gap, but the 60-day grace period and USCIS cap-gap rules mean coordinating your start date precisely with HR matters significantly for maintaining continuous work authorization.
