Align your portfolio to pharma data workflows
AbbVie's Data Engineering roles frequently involve clinical trial pipelines, regulatory data submissions, and commercial analytics. Highlighting experience with healthcare or life sciences datasets signals direct domain fit before your resume reaches a technical reviewer.
Target roles flagged for multiple visa types
AbbVie sponsors across several categories, including H-1B, E-3, and TN. When you see a job posting that lists multiple sponsorship options, that signals the hiring team is experienced navigating different filing pathways, which reduces friction during offer negotiation.
Confirm LCA filing before accepting an offer
Before your H-1B petition can be filed, AbbVie's legal team must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL. Confirm this step is already initiated when you receive your offer letter so you understand the realistic start-date timeline.
Plan around the H-1B cap if you're on OPT
If you're on F-1 OPT, your STEM extension gives you up to 24 additional months, but cap-subject H-1B petitions can only be filed once the October 1 start date aligns. Map your OPT expiration against USCIS lottery registration windows before your final interview round.
Browse open Data Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
AbbVie posts Data Engineer openings across multiple locations and specializations. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for AbbVie roles that match your visa category so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed, not inferred.
Prepare for PERM if long-term residency is your goal
AbbVie sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for Data Engineers on a permanent pathway. PERM recruitment requires DOL to verify no qualified U.S. workers were displaced, so the process typically begins 12 to 18 months before an intended priority date filing.

Find Data Engineer at AbbVie JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does AbbVie sponsor H-1B visas for Data Engineers?
Yes, AbbVie sponsors H-1B visas for Data Engineers. The company has an established immigration program that handles petitions through its legal team, covering both cap-subject filings for new applicants and cap-exempt transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status with another employer. Sponsorship is generally discussed during the offer stage, and AbbVie initiates the Labor Condition Application with DOL before petitioning USCIS.
Which visa types does AbbVie commonly use for Data Engineer roles?
AbbVie sponsors a range of visa categories for Data Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 for Australian citizens, and TN status for Canadian and Mexican professionals. For candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or CPT, AbbVie also supports those work authorization categories during the early employment period while longer-term sponsorship is arranged.
What qualifications does AbbVie expect for Data Engineer roles?
AbbVie Data Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related quantitative field. Practical experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, distributed data processing tools such as Spark or Databricks, and familiarity with data governance in regulated industries are common requirements. Pharmaceutical or clinical data pipeline experience is a meaningful differentiator given AbbVie's drug development and commercial analytics infrastructure.
How do I apply for Data Engineer jobs at AbbVie?
Search for open Data Engineer positions on AbbVie's careers portal or use Migrate Mate to browse current AbbVie roles filtered by visa sponsorship type. When applying, tailor your resume to reference specific data infrastructure experience relevant to life sciences or clinical environments. After submitting, AbbVie's recruiting team typically conducts an initial screen followed by technical and panel interviews before extending an offer that includes sponsorship details.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take at AbbVie for a Data Engineer?
Timeline depends on your visa category. For cap-subject H-1B petitions, USCIS opens lottery registration in March for an October 1 start date, meaning the full process from offer to authorized employment can span six months or more. E-3 and TN petitions move faster, sometimes within weeks of an offer. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship is a separate multi-year process that typically begins after you've established tenure in the role.
