Align your stack with Humana's healthcare data environment
Humana's Data Engineer roles focus heavily on cloud data pipelines, claims data processing, and health analytics platforms. Tailor your resume to reflect experience with tools like Spark, Snowflake, or Azure, and frame past work in terms of healthcare or regulated industry data.
Clarify your visa category before applying
Humana sponsors across several categories, so know exactly which applies to you before your first screen. Confirming whether you need H-1B cap filing, OPT extension, or TN status shapes the timeline your recruiter needs to plan around.
Surface your sponsorship need early in screening
Humana's talent acquisition team handles sponsorship through a structured internal process. Disclosing your visa situation in the first recruiter call, not after the offer, prevents delays and signals you understand how large employer sponsorship workflows operate.
Prepare your credentials for specialty occupation review
USCIS evaluates whether Data Engineer roles qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules. Have official transcripts, degree evaluations for foreign credentials, and documentation of your specialization ready before your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Data Engineer roles at Humana
Humana posts Data Engineer openings across multiple business units, and roles vary by sponsorship eligibility. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Humana Data Engineer positions that align with your visa type, so you're targeting roles where sponsorship is already established.
Understand PERM timing if you're targeting a Green Card
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, Humana would need to run a PERM labor certification through DOL before filing an I-140. At large employers, this process typically starts well after you've demonstrated performance, so raise long-term residency goals during your offer negotiation, not after onboarding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Humana sponsor H-1B visas for Data Engineers?
Yes, Humana sponsors H-1B visas for Data Engineer roles. As a large employer in the health insurance sector, Humana has an established sponsorship process that includes filing the Labor Condition Application with DOL and the H-1B petition with USCIS. Cap-subject candidates must be selected in the annual H-1B lottery, which runs in March for an October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Data Engineer jobs at Humana?
Apply directly through Humana's careers portal and indicate your visa sponsorship requirements during the application or initial recruiter screen. Humana posts Data Engineer roles across multiple business units, so search by function rather than a single job title. Migrate Mate lets you filter open Data Engineer positions at Humana by visa type, making it easier to identify the right openings before you apply.
Which visa types does Humana commonly sponsor for Data Engineer roles?
Humana sponsors H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Data Engineer positions, and supports Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and where you are in your career. TN visa is available only to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations, while H-1B covers the broadest range of data engineering roles.
What qualifications does Humana expect for sponsored Data Engineer positions?
Humana typically looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field, along with hands-on experience building data pipelines and working with cloud platforms. Roles in their healthcare data environment often require familiarity with large-scale structured and unstructured data, ETL processes, and tools that support claims or clinical analytics. Industry experience in healthcare or regulated data is a differentiator.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process typically take at Humana?
For H-1B transfers or cap-exempt filings, USCIS standard processing takes three to five months, with premium processing available to reduce that to roughly 15 business days. Cap-subject H-1B candidates must wait for the March lottery and cannot start before October 1. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship is a multi-year process and generally begins after you've established a track record in the role.
