Align your portfolio to embedded software work
Wolfspeed's Software Engineer roles frequently involve firmware, device drivers, or real-time control systems for power electronics hardware. Highlighting experience with embedded C, RTOS platforms, or hardware-software integration positions you as a direct fit for their silicon carbide product lines.
Confirm OPT or CPT eligibility before applying
Wolfspeed sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, so if you're on a student visa, clarify with your DSO whether your program field aligns with the role. A mismatch between your degree classification and a software engineering function can complicate authorization even when the employer is willing.
Target roles in their Durham or Marcy facilities
Wolfspeed's primary engineering operations run out of Durham, North Carolina, and Marcy, New York. Software Engineer openings tied to these sites are more likely to involve complex hardware integration work that strengthens H-1B specialty occupation justification through degree-specific role requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Wolfspeed's open Software Engineer roles
Not every Software Engineer posting at Wolfspeed is tied to the same sponsorship pathway. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered by visa type, so you apply only to roles where your specific authorization category is already confirmed as supported.
Prepare for a multi-stage technical screen on power systems software
Wolfspeed's interview process for Software Engineers often includes hardware-adjacent problem-solving, not purely algorithmic coding. Demonstrating familiarity with signal processing, power conversion workflows, or semiconductor test software substantially improves your offer odds before sponsorship discussions even begin.
Understand the H-1B cap timeline if you're changing status
If you're moving from OPT to H-1B, USCIS only accepts cap-subject petitions during the April filing window for an October 1 start date. Wolfspeed must file your I-129 petition before the lottery closes, so initiating internal HR discussions no later than January of that year is critical.

Find Software Engineer at Wolfspeed JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Wolfspeed sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Wolfspeed sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. Their technical positions in areas like embedded systems, firmware development, and power electronics software typically satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements because the work demands a degree in a specific engineering or computer science field. Confirm with the recruiter early in the process which roles are designated for sponsorship.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Wolfspeed?
Applications go through Wolfspeed's careers portal at wolfspeed.com. Migrate Mate also aggregates their current Software Engineer openings and filters them by visa sponsorship category, which saves time if you need to confirm a specific pathway is supported before applying. Tailor your resume to reflect hardware-adjacent software skills relevant to semiconductor or power electronics environments.
Which visa types does Wolfspeed commonly use for Software Engineer roles?
Wolfspeed supports H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for Software Engineers. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or computer science occupations. Green Card sponsorship typically begins after you've established yourself in the role, with PERM labor certification filed through the DOL.
What qualifications does Wolfspeed expect for Software Engineer roles?
Most Software Engineer roles at Wolfspeed require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Roles tied to power electronics or semiconductor testing often expect hands-on experience with embedded systems, C or C++ development, and hardware integration. Positions closer to their silicon carbide product line may also require familiarity with signal processing or control system software.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at Wolfspeed?
From offer acceptance to H-1B approval, the standard cap-subject process runs roughly six to eight months if you account for the April lottery and an October 1 start date. Premium processing through USCIS reduces the adjudication window to 15 business days once the petition is filed, but the lottery itself cannot be expedited. Building this timeline into your job search planning well before your current authorization expires is essential.
