Align your credentials with Yale's requirements
Healthcare roles at Yale often require licensure specific to your state of practice. Confirm your degree and any professional certifications are recognized in Connecticut before applying, since credential gaps delay the sponsorship process significantly.
Target Yale School of Medicine postings directly
Yale posts healthcare roles across its medical school, School of Public Health, and affiliated clinical departments. Filtering by department rather than job title surfaces positions in research-heavy units that have a stronger pattern of international hiring.
Ask about LCA timing before accepting an offer
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before the H-1B petition. Confirm Yale's Office of International Students and Scholars has started this process, since LCA certification alone can take weeks and affects your start date.
Prepare your OPT or CPT paperwork early
If you're finishing a health sciences program, USCIS processing for OPT authorization can take up to three months. Submitting your I-765 immediately after your program end date is set protects your ability to start work on time.
Use Migrate Mate to filter healthcare roles by sponsorship type
Not every Yale healthcare listing explicitly states visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified sponsoring positions at Yale, filtering by visa type so you can focus on roles where H-1B or TN sponsorship has been confirmed.
Understand PERM timelines for permanent residence paths
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, Yale must complete a PERM labor market test through DOL before filing your immigrant petition. This process routinely runs 12 to 18 months, so raise long-term sponsorship intent during the offer stage, not after you start.

Find Healthcare at Yale University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Yale University sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare roles?
Yes, Yale University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying healthcare positions, particularly roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specialized field such as public health, clinical research, or health administration. Sponsorship is managed through Yale's Office of International Students and Scholars, which coordinates petition filings with USCIS on behalf of the hiring department.
How do I apply for Healthcare jobs at Yale University?
Applications go through Yale's central careers portal at yale.edu/jobs. Search by department or job family to find healthcare-specific postings across the medical school, School of Public Health, and Yale New Haven Health. You can also browse verified sponsoring roles at Yale on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa type so you can prioritize positions aligned with your sponsorship needs.
Which visa types does Yale University commonly use for Healthcare roles?
Yale most commonly sponsors H-1B visas for healthcare professionals in specialty occupations. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible healthcare categories. For students finishing health sciences programs, F-1 OPT and CPT provide a bridge into employment. For permanent residence, Yale has a track record of supporting EB-2 and EB-3 petitions through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Yale University expect for Healthcare roles?
Expectations vary by role, but most sponsored healthcare positions at Yale require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as nursing, public health, health sciences, or a clinical discipline. Research-oriented positions often require a master's degree or doctoral credential. State licensure in Connecticut is required for direct patient care roles, and clinical research positions typically expect familiarity with IRB protocols and human subjects research compliance.
How do I plan my timeline for visa sponsorship at Yale University?
If you're targeting an H-1B, note that cap-subject petitions are filed once per year with a lottery in March for an October 1 start. If Yale is cap-exempt due to your role's affiliation with the medical school or research functions, petitions can be filed year-round with standard USCIS processing running three to five months. Factor in DOL's Labor Condition Application certification, which must complete before USCIS filing, and build at least six to eight weeks of buffer into your expected start date.
