Verify your credentials meet Iowa licensing requirements
Healthcare roles at University of Iowa often require Iowa state licensure before a visa petition can move forward. Confirm your foreign credentials are eligible for endorsement or examination through the Iowa Board of Nursing or relevant licensing body before applying.
Target roles tied to UIHC directly
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics operates as the clinical arm of the university. Positions posted under UIHC often have dedicated HR and immigration support, which can shorten the time between offer and petition filing compared to smaller departmental hires.
Understand how J-1 waivers affect your H-1B path
If you've trained on a J-1 exchange visa, a two-year home residency requirement may apply before an H-1B is available. University of Iowa can sponsor Conrad 30 waiver applications for physicians, but the process requires DOL and USCIS coordination and adds months to your timeline.
Ask about LCA filing timelines during your offer
Before an H-1B petition reaches USCIS, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and have it certified. At a large institution like University of Iowa, this step is handled internally, but confirming their typical turnaround helps you plan your start date realistically.
Browse Healthcare openings on Migrate Mate
Filtering by visa type and role category matters in healthcare, where sponsorship eligibility varies by position. Use Migrate Mate to find University of Iowa Healthcare roles confirmed for sponsorship, so you're applying where your immigration status is already accounted for.
Align your CV format to U.S. clinical hiring standards
Academic medical centers like University of Iowa expect U.S.-style CVs that separate clinical experience, research output, and board certifications. A CV formatted for Australian or European applications will not translate directly and can screen you out before interviews begin.
