Director of Talent and HR
The Director of Talent and HR serves as Yu Ming Charter School’s senior leader for talent and HR systems, outcomes, and execution across the full employee lifecycle. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer and serving on the Network Leadership Team, this role is accountable for designing, implementing, and continuously improving talent systems that ensure Yu Ming attracts, develops, retains, and exits staff in ways that are equitable, legally sound, and aligned to the school’s academic model and values.
This role explicitly owns talent system effectiveness and outcomes, not just processes. The Director of Talent and HR balances strategic leadership with disciplined execution, ensuring that talent systems support instructional excellence, staff sustainability, and long-term organizational growth.
The Director of Talent and HR does not primarily function as a recruiter or generalist HR manager. Instead, they act as the strategic architect and operator of the employee lifecycle, with particular accountability for teacher retention, performance management, leadership and people-management capacity, and foundational learning and development systems for non-instructional staff while ensuring HR operations are strong, compliant, and predictable.

Target roles that align with H-1B specialty occupation requirements
Yu Ming Charter School sponsors primarily through H-1B, which requires a degree-level specialty occupation. Teaching and curriculum specialist roles with a relevant bachelor's or higher degree are your strongest fit, avoid applying for paraprofessional or aide positions that may not qualify.
Understand the school's Mandarin immersion mission before applying
Yu Ming is a Chinese language immersion charter school. Applicants with Mandarin proficiency, bilingual education credentials, or experience in immersion teaching models will stand out, this context shapes which candidates the school is most motivated to sponsor.
Apply well ahead of the H-1B cap deadline if you need a new visa
If you're not currently on H-1B status, you'll need to enter the lottery by April. Yu Ming's hiring decisions for cap-subject roles must align with that timeline, so reach out to the school early, ideally in winter, to allow time for petition preparation.
OPT and CPT holders should highlight immediate work authorization
Yu Ming has sponsored F-1 OPT and CPT workers, meaning they're open to hiring international students during their authorized period. If you're on OPT, make your authorization end date clear upfront so the school can plan around a potential H-1B transition.
Research open roles using a platform that shows verified sponsorship history
Not every job board shows whether a school actively sponsors visas. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, useful when targeting education employers like Yu Ming where sponsorship willingness isn't always stated in the job posting.
Frame your application around the school's student outcomes, not just your credentials
Charter schools like Yu Ming evaluate cultural and pedagogical fit closely. Emphasize experience with language acquisition, differentiated instruction, or dual-language learners, this signals you'll contribute directly to their immersion model, which strengthens the case for sponsorship investment.

Does Yu Ming Charter School sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Yu Ming Charter School sponsors H-1B visas and has a consistent track record of doing so. Sponsored roles are typically in teaching and education-specialist positions that meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard. If you hold a qualifying degree in education or a related field, H-1B sponsorship is a realistic path at this school.
What visa types does Yu Ming Charter School sponsor?
Yu Ming Charter School sponsors H-1B visas and has also worked with F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT candidates. H-1B is the primary long-term work visa the school uses. If you're an international student finishing a degree or currently in your OPT period, Yu Ming is worth targeting as a school open to sponsoring that transition.
Which roles at Yu Ming Charter School are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Teaching positions, particularly those tied to Mandarin immersion instruction or bilingual education, are the most common sponsored roles at Yu Ming Charter School. Curriculum specialists and roles requiring subject-matter expertise at the bachelor's level or above also align well with H-1B specialty occupation requirements. General support staff positions are less likely to qualify.
How do I find open positions at Yu Ming Charter School that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists employers with verified visa sponsorship history, including schools like Yu Ming Charter School that sponsor H-1B and OPT candidates. You can filter by visa type and employer to surface roles where sponsorship is genuinely on the table, rather than guessing from a standard job posting that may not mention it.
How do I approach the application timeline at Yu Ming Charter School as an H-1B candidate?
If you need a new H-1B, the annual lottery registration closes in late March, with an October 1 start date for approved petitions. That means Yu Ming would need to commit to sponsoring you several months before you can start. Reach out in winter, ideally January or February, to give the school enough runway to prepare and file a petition on time.
