ABOUT THE JOB
ZS’s Data Strategy and Data Office has two pillars. First, we advise clients across sectors — including MedTech, Health Insurance, Travel & Hospitality, and other data-intensive industries — on all matters related to enterprise Data Strategy. As data volumes expand and AI reshapes business models, Data Strategy has become a critical, board-level priority. The team supports clients in defining data vision and mission, designing operating models and data organizations, establishing governance and stewardship frameworks, shaping data sourcing and generation strategies, enabling robust data architecture and cataloging capabilities, and driving compliant value creation. In close collaboration with our Digital and Technology practice, we diagnose and execute data strategies, helping clients build data capabilities and products that drive competitive advantage. The second pillar, Data Office, focuses on building and managing strategic relationships with a wide range of data providers to enable differentiated access to data and power innovative ZS offerings and services.
The Data Strategy Consultant will be located close to one of our East Coast U.S. offices and will help deliver world-class solutions that shape and execute enterprise data strategies, primarily in the MedTech, Health Insurance, or Travel & Hospitality sectors. This includes developing data organizations and Data Offices, designing governance and operating models, strengthening AI-ready data foundations, driving data portfolio optimization and value realization, and leading hands-on delivery of data programs. This individual will have high visibility within the firm and will work collaboratively with the broader Data Strategy team across the Americas, Europe and India, as well as with colleagues across multiple practice areas (e.g., Research and Development Excellence Digital Strategy, Technology Advisory, Compliance, and others).
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Build and maintain deep expertise in enterprise data strategy, data ecosystems and AI-ready data foundations across industries, with strong understanding of U.S. data landscape
- Lead (in collaboration with ZS’ internal and client-facing teams) the design and execution of enterprise data strategy engagements, including defining data vision, operating models and multi-year transformation roadmaps that address critical client challenges and build AI-ready data foundations
- Shape and implement strategic data capabilities that strengthen how organizations manage, govern and use data to drive measurable business value and competitive advantage
- Serve as a primary day-to-day project lead, manage multiple workstreams ensuring fulfillment of project objective on-time and on-budget
- Partner with the Senior Leadership team and assist in project management responsibility, including project planning, staffing management, and people growth
- Build relationships with client stakeholders and lead presentations related to project deliverables, brainstorming, discussions, status updates, etc.
- Manage and collaborate with an extended global team of diverse skill sets (knowledge management, data technologists, business operations, etc.)
- Mentor/coach junior members in the team, inside and outside projects
- Help build long-term Data Strategy assets and offerings
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert to support teams in client project proposals, client discussions, thought leadership, etc., where data expertise is needed
- Contribute to developing POVs on data strategy innovations to build firm intellectual capital and thought leadership
- Contribute to building and managing relationships with key data partners in the US
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Bachelor's or master's degree required, with strong academic performance in analytic and quantitative coursework
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in data strategy, data governance, data management or enterprise data transformation; Consulting, Medtech, Health Insurance, Travel & Hospitality, or cross-industry experience preferred
- Working knowledge of core data strategy capabilities (e.g., operating models, data governance, data products), with the ability to quickly build depth in new domains and topics
- Ability to translate unstructured problems into actionable processes and approaches
- Self-starter with high motivation, maturity and personal initiative, and a strong bias toward action and delivering tangible outcomes
- Strong oral and written communication skills

Frame your credentials around client-facing impact
ZS evaluates Business Development candidates on quantifiable outcomes: revenue influenced, deals closed, and client relationships built. Before applying, document specific wins from consulting or professional services contexts so your profile maps directly to their hiring criteria.
Target ZS offices aligned with your visa category
ZS sponsors multiple visa types including H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT. If you're on OPT with limited runway, prioritize offices in hubs like Chicago or New York where BD hiring cycles run earlier in the calendar year and CPT-to-full-time conversions are more common.
Verify your LCA prevailing wage tier before negotiating
DOL requires ZS to file a Labor Condition Application certifying your offered salary meets prevailing wage for your location and role level. Research FLAG.dol.gov wage data for Business Development titles in your target city before your offer conversation.
Use Migrate Mate to filter ZS BD openings by visa type
Strategic Business Development roles at ZS span multiple seniority levels and practice verticals. Use Migrate Mate to filter open positions by sponsored visa category so you're only spending time on roles where your specific status is supported.
Prepare for a multi-round case interview process
ZS's BD interview process includes market-sizing and strategy cases alongside relationship-selling scenarios. Preparing case frameworks specific to life sciences and healthcare consulting gives you a sharper edge than general management consulting prep.
Align your offer timeline with H-1B cap deadlines
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Coordinate your offer acceptance and start date with ZS's HR team early so your I-129 petition is filed inside the registration window.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ZS Associates sponsor H-1B visas for Strategic Business Developments?
Yes, ZS Associates sponsors H-1B visas for Strategic Business Development roles. ZS also supports H-1B1 visa for eligible nationals and participates in cap-exempt sponsorship for qualifying candidates. If you're currently on OPT or another nonimmigrant status, ZS's HR team will work with you to map the transition to H-1B visa based on the USCIS annual cap timeline.
How do I apply for Strategic Business Development jobs at ZS Associates?
Applications go through ZS Associates' careers portal, where BD roles are listed by practice area and seniority. You can also find and filter ZS's open Strategic Business Development positions by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. Tailor your resume to highlight client acquisition, revenue growth, and consulting sector experience before submitting, as ZS screens for domain-specific impact at the application stage.
Which visa types does ZS Associates commonly sponsor for Strategic Business Development roles?
ZS Associates sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Strategic Business Development positions, and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term employees. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. The right visa path depends on your nationality, degree field, and where you are in your career.
What qualifications does ZS Associates expect for Strategic Business Development roles?
ZS typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, economics, life sciences, or a related field, with an MBA or advanced degree preferred for senior BD roles. Practical experience in consulting, pharma, or healthcare sales carries significant weight. Strong analytical skills, client management experience, and familiarity with go-to-market strategy in professional services are expected at most levels.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship to join ZS Associates?
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, your employment can only begin October 1 following a March registration window. That means coordinating your offer with ZS at least six months in advance. For F-1 OPT candidates, confirm your OPT end date and STEM extension eligibility early, since a gap between OPT expiration and H-1B approval can affect your start date and continuous employment authorization.
