Configuration Specialist Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a configuration specialist in Maryland?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a configuration specialist in Maryland. The typical path starts with a degree in information technology, computer science, or systems engineering, followed by vendor or industry certifications such as CompTIA, ITIL Foundation, or platform-specific credentials like ServiceNow Certified System Administrator. Maryland's large federal contractor community strongly favors candidates who can obtain a security clearance, so starting a clearance-eligible role early is a practical advantage.
Which companies hire configuration specialists in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring configuration specialists in Maryland include Semper Valens Solutions, DUIT, and ASRC Federal, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's heavy concentration of defense contractors and federal IT service providers means many of these openings are tied to long-term government program work.
Which Maryland cities have the most configuration specialist jobs?
Aberdeen, DHS, and Laurel have the most configuration specialist openings in Maryland. Baltimore anchors the healthcare and financial technology demand, while the suburban corridor stretching through Bethesda, Rockville, and Columbia is driven by federal contractors and government agency support centers that require large configuration and systems management teams.
Are there remote configuration specialist jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than many technical roles. About 0% of configuration specialist openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves configuring cloud platforms and ITSM systems rather than on-site hardware. Roles focused on ServiceNow administration, EHR configuration, and software deployment tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while positions requiring hands-on device or network configuration remain largely on-site.
How can I get hired as a configuration specialist in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a helpdesk or IT support role at a Maryland federal contractor or large healthcare system, where you gain exposure to ticketing systems and change management processes before moving into a dedicated configuration role. Employers like Leidos and SAIC run associate and early-career IT programs that accept candidates without direct configuration experience. Earning ITIL Foundation certification and a CompTIA A+ before applying signals baseline readiness, and any hands-on experience with ServiceNow or similar platforms, even from coursework or personal labs, strengthens an application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to configuration specialist jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to configuration specialist jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
