Construction Carpenter Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction carpenter in New York?
The most direct path is completing a registered carpentry apprenticeship through the New York State Department of Labor, which combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction over several years. The New York City District Council of Carpenters and the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters both sponsor recognized apprenticeship programs. While New York does not require a state-issued carpenter's license for most residential work, contractors must hold a New York Home Improvement Contractor license, and many employers expect OSHA safety certification before hiring.
How much do construction carpenters make in New York?
Construction carpenters in New York earn a median of about $72,330 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $46,860 for the lowest 10% to over $122,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire construction carpenters in New York?
Employers hiring construction carpenters in New York right now include Northwell Health, ABM Industries, and Cushman & Wakefield, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's volume of large commercial projects and ongoing public infrastructure investment means major general contractors and union subcontractors consistently post openings throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most construction carpenter jobs?
Manhasset, Copiague, and East Syracuse have the most construction carpenter openings in New York. New York City drives the bulk of demand through its dense commercial development, institutional construction, and renovation activity, while Buffalo benefits from ongoing regional revitalization projects and Albany sees steady work tied to state government facilities and healthcare campus construction.
Are there remote construction carpenter jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Construction carpentry is fundamentally hands-on site work, so remote or hybrid arrangements are the exception rather than the rule. About 0% of construction carpenter openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those listings typically involve estimating, project coordination, or shop drawing review rather than physical carpentry work on site.
How can I get hired as a construction carpenter in New York with little or no experience?
Applying to a registered apprenticeship is the single most realistic entry point, and both the New York City District Council of Carpenters and the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters accept applications from candidates without prior experience. Large New York general contractors like Turner Construction and Skanska also hire carpenter helpers and laborers as a stepping stone. Earning an OSHA 10 certification before applying gives candidates a concrete edge over other entry-level applicants at most New York job sites.
Where can I find and apply to construction carpenter jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to construction carpenter jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
