Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and listen carefully to their vehicle concerns to accurately document repair needs.
- Prepare detailed repair orders using estimating software, ensuring all necessary services such as oil changes, brake repairs, transmissions, suspension work, tire services, shocks & struts, air brakes, alignments, and other diagnostics are clearly outlined.
- Communicate effectively with technicians regarding vehicle issues identified through automotive diagnostics and mechanical knowledge.
- Upsell additional services and maintenance based on customer needs while maintaining transparency and trust.
- Manage client communication throughout the repair process, providing updates and explaining repair options clearly.
- Handle cash transactions accurately and process payments efficiently.
- Utilize computer-aided vehicle damage estimating tools to prepare precise estimates for collision repairs when applicable.
- Assist in managing auto service operations by coordinating appointments, scheduling repairs, and ensuring timely completion of work.
- Promote excellent customer service by addressing questions or concerns promptly and professionally.
- Support the shop’s sales goals through proactive client engagement and effective service writing strategies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a service writer or in an auto service management role within a dealership or repair shop environment.
- Strong mechanic experience combined with automotive diagnostics skills to understand complex vehicle systems such as transmissions, air brakes, suspension components, and more.
- Familiarity with estimating software and computer-aided vehicle damage estimating tools.
- Knowledge of automotive repair procedures including oil changes, brake repairs, tire services, shocks & struts replacement, alignments, and collision repair processes.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients.
- Ability to upsell services ethically while maintaining customer trust.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Mechanical knowledge complemented by experience with dealership operations or auto service environments is highly preferred.
- Cash handling experience is a plus.
